[01:48:43] <wjp> *yawn*
[01:48:48] <wjp> 3:50am... oops
[01:48:52] <wjp> hi Kirben
[01:48:56] <Dominus> he he
[01:48:59] <Dominus> hi Kirben
[01:49:11] <Kirben> Hi
[01:49:39] <Darke> Hi.
[01:50:11] <Darke> wjp: Is your bed casting a wjp summoning spell as we speak, or rather type? *grin*
[01:50:25] <wjp> yes, something like that :-)
[01:51:14] <wjp> *sigh*... php upload scripts...
[01:51:30] <wjp> http://server/directory/ulpage.php3?doel=upload&the_file=/etc/passwd&the_filetype=image/bmp&the_file_name=passwd
[01:51:34] <wjp> guess what that does :-)
[01:51:46] * wjp thinks that script needs some tweaking :-)
[01:52:27] <Dominus> Kirben: how do you like the Underworlds?
[01:54:31] <Darke> wjp: Nasty Stuff(tm) I'm guessing. *grin* Agreed.
[01:55:04] <Kirben> I didn't like the 3D enviroments that much in the Underworld games.
[01:55:19] <wjp> and this is just one of those ready-made scripts that someone developing a webpage is using
[01:55:28] <wjp> *sigh*
[01:55:35] <Dominus> because the Underworld Adventures Project is coming along and I quite like it
[01:56:23] <wjp> it's just _so_ easy to have _huge_ security holes in php scripts
[01:56:34] <Dominus> Kirben: just thought you would like it as well (as it is on SF as well and game related :-))
[01:56:54] <wjp> ah well, time for some sleep now
[01:56:55] <wjp> g'night
[01:57:01] <Dominus> sleep well
[02:06:18] --- Darke is now known as Darke|afk
[02:37:43] --- Darke|afk is now known as Darke
[10:51:13] --- Darke is now known as Darke|afk
[12:16:06] <wjp> hi
[13:10:22] <Colourless> hi
[13:11:17] <wjp> hi
[13:11:41] <wjp> it's strange... Jeff apparently has no trouble with walk-through walls, or being able to walk on lava
[13:11:57] <wjp> while it still happens for me, even with a new game
[13:14:46] <wjp> I'm just taking a look at the 'blocked' array of a chunk with one of those wall sections now
[13:28:00] --- Cless is now known as Colourless
[20:13:18] <Dominus> hi
[20:13:28] <Colourless> hi
[20:56:44] --- Darke|afk is now known as Darke
[20:56:51] * Darke bows. Morning.
[20:57:29] <Dominus> morning
[20:57:33] <Colourless> morning
[21:06:08] <Dominus> hmm, maybe I should have looked at some forums before buying Neverwinter Nights
[21:06:32] <Dominus> but then while on holydays I didn't look at x3dfx forums
[21:06:41] <Dominus> or even the package...
[21:06:59] <Darke> The phrase you're looking for is 'yes'. *grin* But what in specific are you having problems with?
[21:07:01] <Dominus> won't even start on XP due to the Voodoo card
[21:07:32] <Dominus> and poor driver support for that card in XP and NWN
[21:08:01] * Dominus looks at Colourless in regard to poor driver support :-)
[21:08:02] <Colourless> what is it's issue? does it say?
[21:08:22] <Dominus> OpenGL 1.2 based
[21:08:32] <Colourless> hmm, well that 'is' a problem
[21:08:41] <Dominus> with the x3dfx drivers it works on ME
[21:08:57] <Dominus> meaning the original glide/opengl drivers
[21:09:04] <Colourless> hmm. it should work in WinXP thten
[21:09:19] <Dominus> with yours and KoolSmokeys drivers it doesn't
[21:10:02] <Colourless> does it even give an error message?
[21:10:18] <Dominus> and in ME you have to press ESC when it doesn'T seem to do something as it tries to play its movies that won't play at all
[21:10:28] <Dominus> Colourless: no error message
[21:11:08] <Dominus> just spins up the play CD and then dies without any message
[21:11:38] <Colourless> sounds to me like it's saying, buy a new graphics card :-)
[21:11:49] <Dominus> :-)
[21:13:29] <Dominus> no, it is actually saying "bug Colourless for help" (but as you don't have the game and probably not much interest to remotely figure it out....)
[21:14:02] <Colourless> strange that :-)
[21:15:36] <Dominus> and even IF there will ever be a 3dfxU (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) OpenGl 1.2 icd I doubt it will work flawlessly
[21:16:10] <Dominus> as the OpenGl seems just one of two problems
[21:16:21] <Colourless> voodoo's dont support all the reqiured ogl 1.2 features in hardware
[21:16:42] <Dominus> there you go
[21:17:12] <Dominus> btw, interesting read about the bug you found in your card
[21:17:55] <Colourless> there are actually some pretty simple features that OpenGL1.2 that voodoos just don't support. Not much can be done about them, and chances are, if the program expect OpenGL1.2, it's going to want those features
[21:18:59] <Colourless> saying you support something that you actually don't, and then emulate, is worse then letting the app compensate itself for a missing feature because more often than not, the app will be written to have an alternative way of rendering if the feature is missing
[21:19:12] <Dominus> phew, well, whenever the Geoforce is getting cheaper I might consider buying one - but not just yet
[21:19:21] <Colourless> NWN though sounds like it wont ever work properly on a voodoo.
[21:19:57] <Dominus> the movie stuff is just odd - never had a game behave like that
[21:20:00] <Colourless> It was developed on Nvidia cards and uses a number of the nvidia opengl extensions (probably uses ati ones too)
[21:20:31] <Dominus> yeah, the Radeon is on the recommended hardware
[21:21:22] <Dominus> but whatever card I'll buy - I won'T buy a Matrox card. Never ever will I fall for those (I had a Mystique way back)
[21:22:04] <wjp> hi Dominus
[21:22:12] <Dominus> lol
[21:22:22] <wjp> better late than never :-)
[21:23:46] <Colourless> i've no idea what i'll get next. nvidia or ati, don't really care. just which one is 'best'
[21:23:58] <Dominus> he
[21:24:29] <Dominus> I'm not really getting into the "nvidia screwed 3dfx - no card from then"
[21:24:40] <Colourless> 3dfx screwed 3dfx.
[21:24:52] <Dominus> exactly, as sad as it is
[21:25:00] <wjp> I wonder when I'll give in to the temptation of getting a new video card :-)
[21:25:05] <Colourless> listening to people at x3dfx and 3dfxu is generally a bad idea :-)
[21:25:35] <Dominus> I don't think I'll ever listen to them
[21:25:48] <wjp> are those forums?
[21:25:58] <Dominus> are you still "affiliated" with them
[21:26:03] <Colourless> yeah they are forums
[21:26:04] <Dominus> wjp: yes mostly
[21:26:24] <Colourless> no i am not affiliated any more. i kind of pissed devo off by speaking my mind about things :-)
[21:26:40] <Colourless> and you know what, i really don't care
[21:26:52] <Dominus> :-)
[21:27:10] * Darke has come to the conclusion that listening to evangelists of any sort is generally a bad thing. *grin* They're blinded to the 'correct' solution, becuase they think they _have_ the One, And Only One Correct Solution(tm).
[21:28:03] <wjp> hm, opening the savegame gump takes a couple of seconds by now :-)
[21:28:12] * wjp wonders if he's collected too many savegames :-)
[21:28:59] <Dominus> Colourless: the whole idea of the 3dfxU drivers was nice but very doubtful from the beginning with Devo behind the wheels. And up to now there isn't anything in those so called beta drivers which you don't get elswhere (yours and koolsmokeys glide drivers)
[21:29:23] <Dominus> wjp: how many do you have now? playing through SI does have that effect :-)
[21:29:28] <wjp> 106
[21:29:45] <Dominus> where are you now (plotwise)?
[21:30:00] <wjp> just got the phoenix egg
[21:31:20] <wjp> so I guess I'm a couple of hours away from the MoF, once I get back to playing
[21:31:34] * Darke considers the phrase, "You know you're an exult developer when... you note progress through the game, not in terms of plot, but in terms of which eggs you've triggered."
[21:31:49] <Dominus> :-)
[21:31:55] <Colourless> hehe
[21:32:12] <wjp> "You know you're an exult developer when you think of 'eggs' whenever you hear the term 'egg'"
[21:32:23] <Dominus> Imagine still having to use just the original save slots
[21:32:31] <Darke> "... your savegame gump takes more then half a second to load." *grin*
[21:33:27] <Colourless> time for me to go
[21:33:35] <Darke> Bye.
[21:33:43] <Dominus> sleep well
[21:34:52] <Dominus> well if anyone else is interested there is a German review of Lindows at http://www.pro-linux.de/news/2002/4446.html
[21:36:44] <wjp> doesn't sound particularly good
[21:36:50] <Dominus> no
[21:37:17] <wjp> not that I was ever too impressed with the whole 'Lindows' idea
[21:37:30] <Dominus> mainly that Lindows gives root permissions by default
[21:37:55] <wjp> or an install of only 450Mb
[21:37:58] <Dominus> but then that review doesn't say anything at all about supposed working Win32 apps
[21:38:07] <wjp> mine's 6 times that :-)
[21:38:34] <wjp> having to pay $99 to get more open-source software sounds very bad
[21:38:39] <wjp> sounds like cheating, in fact
[21:38:44] <Dominus> yep
[21:38:57] <wjp> I wonder if they accidently forget to mention that you can also get the software for free
[21:39:33] <wjp> maybe the machine with Mandrake pre-installed will be better
[22:16:32] <wjp> time to go
[22:16:33] <wjp> g'night
[22:16:42] <Dominus> bye
[23:35:58] <Dominus> hi Kirben
[23:38:12] <Darke> Hi.
[23:42:58] <Kirben> Hi
