[02:09:07] <dto> hello. ever since i was a wee lad in the early 90s, i had this wild fantasy of making a point and click adventure game in the style of ultima 7. a few days ago i finished chapter 1. it is a free game , GPL but with restricted art/music, so I hope you will not consider this a commercial spam. but if anyone is interested in seeing a hand-painted high res game with a similar sort of vibe, let me know and i'll give the link.
[02:09:30] <dto> also, i grew to appreciate your effort in writing the code, even having just written the very simplified version of the U7 UI
[02:09:55] <dto> i don't even overlap/pack objects inside containers, i just use a grid like Underworld did
[02:10:05] <dto> and its still damn hard to make sure everything works
[02:12:27] <dto> but i had a lot of friends bang on the game to make sure you can't put a bag inside of itself, and to make sure you can't drag a gump into a bag as an item (which was a bug at one point!)))
[02:14:00] <dto> dragging people into bags etc. object orientation is so fun
[02:17:12] <dto> a couple of screenshots. you can see the GUMPs http://imgur.com/a/CvKmW
[02:50:51] <sh4rm4> my 50c: nice venture; however there's not much point in it if it's non-free (and the graphics dont look good enough to make me wanna pay for it)
[02:51:32] <sh4rm4> also i generally dont like pre-rendered hi-res stuff
[02:51:57] <sh4rm4> much of the charme of U7 is low-res and restriction to a 256 color palette
[03:10:52] <dto> id like to release the graphics as CC-BY-SA at some point, but ok point taken
[03:11:08] <dto> unless that's not what you meant by "nonfree"
[03:11:48] <dto> anyway i am expecting the game to flop. i'm doing an action game next.
[03:11:55] <dto> i won't bother you about that, though.
[03:11:58] <dto> thanks for your thoughts.
[03:12:30] <dto> i will admit i am not a professional quality artist. i just.... went ahead and did it.
[03:19:18] <dto> i learned a lot about programming, so i think it was well worth it, and a lot of fun besides
[09:08:46] <Lightkey> eh, I saw a game representation by someone I know at Devmania last year and felt sorry for him, did not understand why anyone else would be interested as it looked just like dto's game
[09:09:04] <Lightkey> then he got someone to redo the graphics: http://www.das-tal-game.com/home
[09:09:50] <Lightkey> oh well, dto's gone
