[13:07:36] <wjp> bad bot :-)
[13:08:04] <Darke> Agreed. He's been rather... absent recently. <grin>
[13:08:33] <wjp> my univ's internet connection has been down a lot the last few days
[13:09:01] <Wumpus> ooh
[13:09:07] <Wumpus> .nl ... thats netherlands?
[13:09:12] * wjp nods
[13:09:34] <Wumpus> you'd probably be the right person to ask if one could work there with strong english (and german) but no dutch language ability ? :)
[13:09:44] <Wumpus> and good evening :-)
[13:09:51] <wjp> hmm
[13:09:57] <Wumpus> (or, afternoon to you i suppose :))
[13:10:08] <wjp> nearly everyone here should speak english
[13:10:32] <wjp> but if you know german, you should be able to learn dutch fairly quickly
[13:10:43] <Wumpus> ah, cool
[13:11:08] * Wumpus can speak and read german more or less fluently, writing takes a bit more effort...
[13:11:12] <Wumpus> thanks :)
[14:35:35] <Sentack> Hello.
[14:36:40] * Darke bows, "Hi."
[14:37:12] <Sentack> Just stoping in to see what you guys are chatting about. If anything at all.
[14:37:36] <Darke> Absolutely nothing. <grin> It's been dead quiet tonight. Not even the sound of a pin dropping.
[14:38:24] <Sentack> Jeeeze. Not a word eh? Well I hope it's okay if I break the silence some although I don't have much to break it with. verbaly that is.
[14:39:49] <Darke> Last thing said was an hour and 20 minutes ago. And that was a five minute conversation between two people, on something unrelated to exult. <grin>
[14:40:41] <Sentack> Ahhh Okay. Well I just wanted to comment about Pentagram, which I honestly find an interesting project.
[14:41:35] <Darke> Four hours of complete silence earlier two, only broken by a sbx dropping a pin. <grin> Pentagram? Sorry, if I told you anything about something that may or may not be called 'Pentagram', then I'd have to kill you. <grin>
[14:41:56] <Sentack> Ehhhh?
[14:42:08] <Darke> Sorry. <grin> Running joke.
[14:42:11] <Sentack> What is Pentagram? The un-exknowlaged project?
[14:43:17] <Darke> Officially "Pentagram is not Exult". <grin> But yes, it's the somewhat acknoledged project that might do for u8 what exult does for u7, sometime in the future.
[14:43:33] * Sentack nods.
[14:44:19] <Sentack> Well I didn't equate Pentagram as Exult. But more of a new "Project" that is designed to do very much like what Exult does. Although I'm curious know with most of the developers bounty of new knowlage and skills, what they will come up with.
[14:45:56] <Darke> Currenly there exists a map viewer, which plays music, IIRC only on win32 at the moment, another viewer which displays shapes, globs, and animation, and the usecode partially decompiled, with a basic decompiler.
[14:46:11] * Sentack nods
[14:47:07] <Sentack> Sounds cool. I was just shocked to see the array of work done from the first time I noticed the project (Which was when it basicly started) to now... Plus some of the talks on the newsgroup indicates that the guys want to take a somewhat new apporach to some of the design of the project.
[14:49:01] <Darke> wjp: Had apparently been doing quite a bit of the work before he even committed it to cvs. Most of the stuff currently in it is realtively... 'basic' so to speak. <grin>
[14:50:11] <Sentack> <nods> Well I wish I had my U8 data files here at the office, I might try to build what exists and see if I can just get the shape browser to work. Although you say it only works for win32 atm? Mmm I'm on a Solaris/Sparc box. Won't work?
[14:50:41] <Sentack> I remember someone makeing a shape browser in Basic some time ago. But that's about it.
[14:50:44] <Darke> The music only works for win32. Everything else works on both Linux and win32.
[14:51:08] <Sentack> Okay I don't care about music. If I can build the project without music, I'll be fine for sure.
[14:55:09] * wjp wakes up again
[14:57:14] <wjp> hm, pentagram might work on Solaris
[14:58:49] * wjp tries...
[14:59:29] <Sentack> I would try if I had the datafiles. But they are all at home.
[14:59:50] <Sentack> I remember haveing to install that game via floppies. <groans>
[15:00:41] <wjp> minor problem: the original U8 came with a compressed u8shapes.flx, and we haven't written a decompression tool for it yet
[15:00:55] <Sentack> I have it on CD now.
[15:01:08] <wjp> original CD or UC?
[15:01:41] <Sentack> I believe the CD has it all uncompressed. A actually I have Both cd's.. Well a re-release edition (Without the pentagram ont he box) And the UC Cd from U9.
[15:02:04] <wjp> UC has the uncompressed u8shapes.flx
[15:02:11] <Sentack> So affectively, I bought the game 3 times.
[15:02:25] <Darke> <grin> But it's worth it? Right?
[15:02:35] <Sentack> I suspect the re-released CD has it uncompressed too but am not sure.
[15:02:37] <wjp> let's see... yeah, 3 times here too
[15:03:06] * Darke only has it once, and never actually played it.
[15:03:54] <Sentack> I don't know if it was "worth" it but when I first got it, No cd drive. then when I got a cd drive. The cd was dirt cheep. and fell into the category of "So If I want to play it again, but the floppies die" Experience.. Then low and behold I get it once again. with U9.
[15:04:03] <wjp> pentagram builds ok on solaris, btw
[15:04:11] <Sentack> It's more interesting then U9 although perhaps not as big.
[15:04:25] <Sentack> Cool. Thanks. Does it work fine too I assume?
[15:04:33] <wjp> dunno
[15:04:38] <wjp> I compiled it remotely
[15:04:43] * Sentack shrugs
[15:04:46] <Sentack> OH well.
[15:04:52] <Sentack> If I remember to bring in a cd.....
[15:04:57] <wjp> I guess it should work
[15:05:29] <Sentack> Solaris is funny about memory access on four byte boundries.
[15:05:41] <Sentack> So it might compile but then when you run it...
[15:06:16] <wjp> hm, I see
[15:06:46] <Sentack> I think I had that problem with Exult. Your 8 byte copy routine didn't fly on Solaris. Ever try it?
[15:06:57] <wjp> yes, it should be fixed
[15:07:04] * Sentack nods
[15:07:15] <wjp> although
[15:07:23] <Sentack> Well If I ever remember to give Pentagram a shot, I'll let you know.
[15:19:07] <^miguel^-> yo
[15:19:08] * Darke bows and must disappear, his bed is calling him. <grin> "Night all."
[15:19:13] <Darke> Hi! Bye!
[15:19:13] <Sentack> Hello.
[15:19:17] <Sentack> Bye.
[15:19:18] <^miguel^-> bye
[15:19:18] <wjp> night
[15:19:30] <wjp> hi miguel
[15:46:26] <Sentack> Be back later
[18:44:26] <Colourless> hi
[18:44:38] <wjp> hi
[20:10:51] <Colourless> i think we need to have an exultbot npc on sourceforge island. conversation responces should be the same as the real exultbot :-)
[20:11:20] <wjp> we'd have to finally decide on a shape for him/her/it then :-)
[20:21:37] <Fingolfin> hi
[20:22:09] <wjp> hi
[20:22:26] <Colourless> hello!
[20:26:14] <Fingolfin> I hacked up pentagram so that the avatar turn to face where you clicked last night. But then I went on to add animations, too, now my local copy segfaults when I clicek :)= that's why you haven't seen anything of this yet =)
[20:26:28] <wjp> heh :-)
[20:26:45] <wjp> have you tried clicking instead of cliceking? ;-P
[20:27:31] <Colourless> cool, and not so cool :-)
[20:28:14] <Colourless> i must be going
[20:28:14] <Colourless> bye
[20:32:53] <Fingolfin> wjp: just tried as you suggest, no change =)
[20:32:57] <Fingolfin> but I will look into this later
[20:33:03] <wjp> ah well, it was worth a try I guess :-)
[20:33:13] <Fingolfin> *after* I replied to these emails, and after I finished my homework *cough*
[20:33:16] <Fingolfin> he
[22:26:39] <wjp> time to go
[22:26:40] <wjp> bye
