[13:40:16] exult-bridge:Dominus: "verfied" accounts to wreak havoc, now he turned around apparently and abolished the 48 sell out and Twitter Blue
[13:40:42]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Fair. Though one notes that Twitter has not been alone in laying off staff; Meta and many others have also been letting thousands go. If I wanted to be charitable, I'd say that Musk can also recognize and correct course on an error (by re-hiring key staff). Impersonation was already against Twitter TOS; if the rule wasn't adequately enforced before, that doesn't change the fact that it was the rule. Personally, I think
[13:40:42] the checkmark thing is hilarious. But then, I was never one for status symbols like that. And even granting all of that: is the day to day experience worse? Twitter was already a cesspool, but I've been enjoying being back on it lately. Which I can't say of it under most of Jack's tenure.

[13:43:49] exult-bridge:Dominus: The problem with Twitter laying of staff is that he fired half of the staff (vs. Meta firing 13%) which makes it liable for a law suit (against some California law in some condition). Then he yesterday announced that work from home is immediately abolished (while before it was encouraged and people moved to rural areas)
[13:44:42] exult-bridge:Dominus: advertisers are halting their ads <- money problems
[13:44:56] exult-bridge:Dominus: problems with the FTC which could cost him billions
[13:45:30]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Still not answering the question I keep asking.
[13:45:36]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Is the day to day experience worse?
[13:47:48]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> As for the layoffs...I thought this was an interesting summary of it: https://compactmag.com/article/the-email-caste-s-last-stand
[13:48:12] exult-bridge:Dominus: not for me personally, but I expect that Twitter is eventually going to face technical problems as well. Key personnel fired or left and remaining are crunching and have to implemt stuff that is daily/hourly changed
[13:49:05] Philantrop: exult-bridge: Yes, in that retweeting is partially broken, followers disappear (and sometimes reappear), etc. etc.
[13:49:24] exult-bridge:Dominus: ah yes, that happens
[13:49:47] exult-bridge:Marzo: Not to mention Twitter already had issues cleaning up abuse before, with half the staff it is liable to get much worse on the short term
[13:50:07]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Weird. Haven't seen that as yet, and I RT/QT like a sonofa...
[13:51:01]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Maybe. We'll see.
[13:51:22]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> It's interesting to contemplate what an alternative to Twitter might be...but I don't know that there is one.
[13:51:26] exult-bridge:Dominus: Actually in that department more than half is gone
[13:51:57]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Mastodon isn't it, any more than it was when a bunch of right-wingers left for that service and forked it to make Gab.
[13:52:04] exult-bridge:Dominus: the banks who financed 13billions of the deal are already selling that off at 30% -40% discount 🙂
[13:52:55] exult-bridge:Dominus: no, aehm yes, mastodon, is weird
[13:56:09]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> It's got the same advantage & limitation as Discord does: it's split up into topic-focused servers, so there's kind of a natural siloing effect. It's great for having a Twitter-like experience where everyone is there because they have a common interest (like, say, a UDIC Discord...), but it's not that same sort of "digital town square" that Twitter often gets painted as.
[13:57:01]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> There's been a few other alternatives I've seen mentioned, some of which don't even have phone apps available. So...none of those, either.
[13:59:12] exult-bridge:Dominus: it's a bit better than discord, as if you actually follow someone you see his stuff in the feed at least
[14:02:00] exult-bridge:Dominus: so once you follow a couple of people it feels more like twitter since it fill sup similarly
[14:09:28]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Yeah, it's very Twitter-like in presentation. I've had an account for years.
[14:09:46]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> And it does let you move between servers without losing followers.
[14:11:04]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> Still, it's not the same, and there's definitely a siloing effect in play there. Which isn't really out of place these days, I suppose; the tendency is for people to keep to their own bubbles these days.
[14:12:23] exult-bridge:Dominus: yes but that has been going on for a while. I was mostly in my bubble before as well and since I used non official Twitter clients it ensured me t only see what I follow and not some random stuff

[14:14:24]<⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷> My other Twitter accounts are all for purposes - the Codex, podcasts, Scouts, etc. So those are rather more focused in terms of who/what they follow.
[14:15:27] twitter has been for many years a waste of digital space. good riddence 🤣
[14:15:42] basically became a necessary evil for so many
[14:16:45] exult-bridge:Dominus: I enjoyed it mostly but always had to cut back on who I follow or else it would overflow my timeline
[15:19:57] exult-bridge:Rothbard_Chlorthos: I've never Tweeted before, and don't have the time to now
[15:20:28] exult-bridge:Rothbard_Chlorthos: That was a nice article though @⁉ WtF Dragon 🤷 . Useful perspective
