Re: Serpent Isle questions

BG didn't support altering NPC schedules. SI on the other hand did, and it was used quite a bit.

Exult has 'back ported' the support for altering schedules into BG.

Re: MT-32 SYSEX

Actually, the OGGs from SI sound slightly different to the output from Exult. Best as I can tell, the OGGs are wrong. Not sure how they were recorded but I'm guessing it was done by playing midi files converted using XMI2MID outside of the game itself, which in this case wont reproduce everything co...

Re: MT-32 SYSEX

Yes. Use a Exult 1.4 Snapshot for Sysex support. Exult doesn't support MIDI SFX so it only has an effect on the music. If you set the correct Midi output device and set exult to the correct midi conversion type you will be laughing. Oh and using an SCC-1 is unnecesary. It is really old and I don't r...

I'd say try a snapshot, but you'll need to compile it yourself as we don't have any binary snapshots for OSX. We should probably provide a binary OSX snapshot as there is that problem in the 1.2 release. Will need to talk to Max about arranging something.

The Music system was rewritten since Exult 1.2 was released and it replaced the old 'dodgy' OSX midi driver with a much better one.

There is nothing wrong with selling 'Exult'. GPL doesn't forbid profiting off of GPL work. We can't stop it. We ourselves would never do it, but someone else could if they wanted to. You can have 6 party members total in SI (Avatar and 5 others). Some people may not join if the party is of a certain size. If that happens and you have less than 6 people, try asking them to join in a different order.

Same applies to BG that has a max party size of 8

The XML 'like' files that Exult uses are very much not standard XML files though.

Of course in Pentagram we decided not to use XML files, instead we use INI files simply because they are much simpler for the average user to understand. And they are just easier to read.

Using chunks or whatever other name you want to call them, is a coarse, simple, but yet very effective compression scheme. If done right it reduces memory requirements, create a nice structure to store and sort data in, and can greatly improve general efficency in item management.
