While I find the tone of ShadowChaser's post absolutely abysmal and undeserved, I do think the points he makes are reasonable: applications should be well behaved in the environment.

openwatcom....
nobody has really tested that. We only build with g++ (Gnu C++), MSVC and I guess mingw.
You're free to try, although I believe OpenWatcom's support for templates is not too hot, and Exult uses them...

Even if it did not work (which is unlikely), whoever has the right tools (Leopard + compilers) can send us patches to bring it inline with the latest OSX.

/usr/lib/libfl.a is included in the flex package under Ubuntu, but automake should have added the -lfl to the link command

A Radeon 7500 is nothing special: it is a reasonably supported card by open source drivers (i.e. plain old Xorg or XFree86 should work fine). DRI is only useful for accelerated 3D, and Exult doesn't use any of that (yet :) ). Also, SDL writes directly to the framebuffer only in DGA mode, which it is...

In fact the Serpent Isle packaging was of inferior quality (imho) to the Black Gate box (at least the box I got): paper map instead of cloth, crap box.

You should talk to Colourless: he's in charge of Exult's sound engine. He's also rewritten it completely in Pentagram and I believe he's going to backport it to Exult.

The documentation that comes with Exult is fairly extensive (thanks Dominus!!!): you should really get in touch with whoever packaged the RPM for Mandrake and ask how it was packaged.
