Looks like the build is becoming unbalanced. :D

Re: Deadeye's other reason for following Batlin

Re: Selina What I was specifically thinking of was a book that didn't make it into the game which told a story about a mage named Celennia who was feuding with Frigidazzi. I'm not sure why this was removed from the game, but this was how I found how who Selina was (though it seems I missed some othe...

Re: Deadeye's other reason for following Batlin

You might want to look through the usecode. I remember there was some backstory on Selena that didn't make it in the game, so there might be some cut dialog or something for Deadeye as well.

Re: Chronologically confused

They are definitely the earliest version of Automaton, though. From one of the books in the game: Over the years, we who follow Order have devised a number of ingenious servants to simplify our lives. The earliest attempt is known as the "Animated Suit of Armor". Though automatons have mad...

Re: Chronologically confused

Also, Shamino's castle is the only place in the game where you fight the "animated armors", which you come across in some sort of armory/barracks. These were the first type of Automaton, which makes it pretty obvious that Shamino's subjects went on to become the Ophidians.

Re: Chronologically confused

If I remember the account of the massacre correctly, he only killed the citizens of his kingdom. The people from Shamino's kingdom would have been spared (though apparently they were having problems of their own, as the ghost of Shamino's squeeze tells you). (Hmm, I never noticed before that both SI...

Re: Rescue 911, Black Gate Style

It's important to remember that BG was released on 3.5 diskettes, and adding even a single disk would have cost OSI a lot of moolah. So they had to draw the line somewhere (also, BG shipped at least 4 months late, so they were taking their time). RG even states in an interview that the primary drive...

Re: Moon phases and wind directions.

Sorry, that was supposed to be 24 for Felluca, 72 for Trammel.

Re: Moon phases and wind directions.

According to the Ultima III map, Trammel has a period of 48 days, and Felluca 16 days (which corresponds to the in-game logic of the left moon changing phase for every three changes of the right moon). I suspect they kept it as 24 hours in Ultima V and VI. (In V I think it's only Felluca that matter...

Re: Through the Moongate Part 2 on Kickstarter

Does Part I have any details on Ultima IV Part 2? And is it sufficiently different from The Complete Book of Ultima, which covered the same time period?

Re: Moon phases and wind directions.

Heh, I figured out how to do it. I was playing Ultima III, and was noticing how a lot of fun in the game comes from figuring out things; if you know what to do the game is simple and not much fun. It reminds me a lot of the way that the original Legend of Zelda is, where once you know you can blow h...

Re: Moon phases and wind directions.

There's also Dawn, which would be impossible to do with Exult. Well, not impossible, but you'd have to add a property to every type of object in the game to indicate which phases of which moon it's visible with (including NPCs!). However it would work pretty nice with the slower mooncycles, in Ultim...

Moon phases and wind directions.

For those who have worked with the decompiled binaries... Have you found any indications that Ultima VII keeps track of the phases of the moons or the direction of the wind, as the previous 4 games had done? I know they're not displayed anywhere in the game (actually, isn't there a windsock somewher...

The myth of the clean sheet of paper.

I remember that RG used to always say that every Ultima was written from the ground up, and not a single line of code was kept from the previous game. However I have also heard that Ultima VII was built on a heavily modified version of the U6/WoU engine, that Ultima VIII was built on heavily modifie...
