Re: Bug in latest win32 snapshot

Might be best if you submit a bug report with a .zipped savegame from right before you're about to use a lever. In my playing last night, I recall using levers in Shamino's Castle without problems.

Re: Bug in latest win32 snapshot

I just fixed a crash that happens when, or soon after, you open a gump (inventory, spellbook, etc.). Hope that's it.

Re: Exult Studios

There's still a lot to do before you could actually create your own game, but that's the plan.

Re: Next release

But that's not virtuous:-) Anyway, I'm not saying we'll never improve it. And if there aren't enough other bugs during Beta, I may take another look. Still, it seems like it wasn't that hard to steal in the original. I recall looting a whole lot in Trinsic and Britain before discovering that you wer...

Re: Next release

Noname: Are there any messages in stdout.txt or stderr.txt that would give a clue as to why the program died? Were you doing anything particular each time (like opening the Stats window)?

Re: Next release

Townsfolk do fight back (at least in BG the last time I tried), and shopkeepers will catch you stealing. It's not exactly like in the original, but then, Exult is not Ultima. I also recall it being pretty easy to get away with theft in the original games. Plus, this isn't a gameplay issue that I rea...

Re: Next release

One other fixed bug:

5. In the Furnace arena the Automatons didn't attack properly and the doors didn't open/close automatically as they should.

Next release

I believe we're about ready to release our first Beta. I'm currently playing through SI as a tester, finding and fixing bugs along the way. Generally, it's quite playable, and I'm finding about one bug/hour, most easily fixed. The latest are: 1. The bad-guy, Rabinxxxxx, in the Dream World, was going...

Re: letter to Electronic Arts

There were some funny comments on Slashdot about this issue. In particular, at least one person noted that Toto was a character in W of O, not the author, as R.G. was of Ultima.

Now if Peroxide had claimed that they'd gotten permission from Shamino, Mr. Brown would have had a more valid point.

Re: letter to Electronic Arts

Yes, that's right. I exchanged a few letters with Carly Staehlin, who used to work at Origin, going back to June 2000. She mentioned forwarding my letters to 'legal', but nothing ever came of it one way or another. Also, for the first year of its life, Exult wasn't intended to be a full game engine,...

Re: Amusing bug

I could fix that by requiring a minimum intelligence to open doors. But it's kind of amusing.

Re: Sourceforge problem = danger for exult?

Yes, the worst that happens is that we lose the 'history' of the source code. We'd also lose the bug list, but that's really short at the moment:-)

My guess is that if VA Linux went under, another company would take over sponsorship of SourceForge. If it did go away, I'd look to GNU for support.

Here:

Dear Mr. Brown: After seeing the Wired.com article about Ultima remakes, I've decided it's time to contact you about my project, Exult. This is an attempt to create a new game engine for Ultima 7. Unlike other projects, I believe that ours is of benefit to your company, for the following reasons: 1....

Re: Rabindrinath and Dream Realm woes

I played through this last night, and there might be some sort of bug here. The first time I approached him, he talked to me correctly. But I was missing the Helm, and got blasted back to the swamp. When I returned with the Helm, he was in combat mode, and would only attack me. But after letting a d...
