mortegro and the severed hand

in SI, i can ask mortegro about the severed hand that the first magic storm left in my inventory, and he says something like "perhaps if you had it you could show it to me". the thing is that i DO have it. tried giving it to the avatar before talking, but mortegro still doesn't see it. it is a bug, or was it that way in the original? i think somebody else told me that the hand was a product of erstam's experiments, so i guess it's not that important to show it to mortegro, but i'm wondering.

If I remember, there are a couple objects in storm that are like that, but they seem like game flukes. I remember I couldn't give that one guy his dad's urn back once.
