problem with ultima 8

its been so long since i installed this game, i forgot how to fix this problem.
how do i fix the "you need to set files=40 in your config" error? i remember fixing it a long time ago, but i dont remember what i did. any help will be appreciated. thank you!

that's easy:
edit your config.sys and add(or edit) a line with
files=40
as on how to do this for Windows ME see the homepage for the "U8 for Windows" (link is on our link page).
For Windows XP/2k edit your config.nt file (by default in c:\windows\system32\) like you would edit the config.sys file. If you are using VDMS on W2k/XP use the launchpad and add it in there (see documentation of Vdms/launchpad).
