ogg implementation questions...

Post by `daniel »

Does anybody know just how I can alter the existing ogg files to change the volume range? I am really annoyed at the fact that some really good tunes are soo damn quiet whilst other rather annoying and repeatitive tunes are too loud (ie: LB's Castle and some fighting music)

BTW, I'm using linux here so please no suggestions for window's apps.

I'm actually looking at doing a original midi --> ogg conversion with higher bit rates (probably 92kbp range) and in the process either normalizing or altering the volume levels to the way I think suites the game best.

I'm considering this because I find myself very often turning up the volume to hear tunes then walking into LB's castle and having to turn down the volume with a fright. The shock that some of these louder tunes give you is quite unpleasant.

ugg...

unless there is a sound app that works on oggs... dump to wav,normalize/fix volume , and then re-encode them as oggs.

or aterntaly, talk Dr.code into implementing some sort of volume settings file for the existing set.

The OGG files I recorded using the MT32 were recorded exactly at the same sound levels as in the original game. You can quite easily change the volumes (or use dynamics compression) yourself by re-encoding the files.

Personally I find the levels are just right for most of the tunes, but then I use a really good sound system. Some tunes are too bloody loud, such as Lord British's fanfare but this is what the original composers intended, I guess.
