coastline bug

Post by mjohnston »

I think there may be a bug with the latest snapshot of exult. a lot of the coastal animations for shorelines seem to have their frames out of sync with each other... I read in the changelog something about different ways sound effects worked with shapes that have frames and thought maybe it has something to do with that? first I thought it was just a lot of messed up chunks in my black gate files, so I checked in serpent isle and found the same thing. wondering if other people are getting this too?

There, it should be fixed in the next snapshot.

On the subject of shorelines, the ones at the opening of SI during the teleport sequence and ones after seem to tend to freeze entirely after the scenes. Any chance of looking into whats up there? :P

Crysta: Out of curiosity: do they freeze for some time then spontaneously start animating again for a while? If so, I just fixed it. Otherwise, I must have fixed it when I fixed the earlier problem because I can't reproduce it.

Nope, its still broken.. when you get into the battle scene the water freezes and never restarts.

Also, have the paths for the digital music and sound effect packs been changed recently? Or the files renamed or such? Because the flames at that scene are ticking rather than burning, and digital music is refusing to work.

Music was my fault, just to let you know... but sound effects are still broken.

Sorry for 3 posts in a row, this board needs a post edit function badly.

Anyway, it seems whats happening is some continuous sound effects in BG and SI are no longer working properly, like they're being cut off at a fraction of their total length before being repeated. That OR they've been repointed to the wrong sound effects.

Some of the SFX differences are intentional; for example, the 'ticking' of flames (they were completely silent before). I'll give you that the flames in particular sound like crap, but I based it as best as I could of the originals. There has also been a remapping of some (but nowhere near all) SFX, so you may be seeing (hearing?) some differences due to that; but the SFX packs themselves haven't been touched.

I managed to reproduce the problem with the stopping animations; I will see what is going on.

Digital music hasn't been touched; it is, in fact, working perfectly on my end.

K.. thanks. :)

The problem is those flames are drowning out any other sound effects... fountains of any type are equally bad... I just don't think they're working fully right somehow.

Yeah, the problem with fountains are that they seem so much louder than the rest of the sfx. I think I will disable the fire sfx for the next snapshot; they were equally as annoying in the originals (if not more)... which is not a memory I am exactly fond of.

Anyway, I modified a little the way that sfx volume is calculated so that fountains and water will be less annoyingly loud.

Ok.. sounds good. :)

I've kinda forgotten what the flames were like in the originals.. its been a long time since I played them outside of Exult. ^^;
