new one

Post by AcidArne »

hi!

i'm new on this board and i really love Exult ^^

i started with ultima 8 and bought the complete ultima 7 (BG + FoV & SI + SSS) about 2 years later and soon i liked it more than ultima 8 :)

english is not my native language, so i had a lot to learn. i think from this game on i started to buy original versions of games and not the german versions.

i found this page while i was looking for some information about how i could get more memory to play serpent isle (my favorite). i've just installed Exult and ran the program. i could't believe how easy it worked and was stunned when i started a new game of serpent isle. i still can't believe it but it works ^^

my question to you is how can i get sound? my soundcard is far to new, i fear. during some harware problems i had to replace my SB64 AWE to a SB PCI. i don't know exactly what kind of SB PCI it is because i found it somwhere between other hardware components. i think it is very sad to play serpent isle without sound, so what can i do?

Welcome to the Exult boards!

As for your sound problem, does it work at all? Say for example, to play music or Windows applications?

As long as you've got a working sound driver on your system, there shouldn't be a problem getting sound to work. Make sure you downloaded and installed the sound packs from the download page, and that the Exult MIDI settings are compatible with your sound card. GM and FM synth should work just fine.

well, thank you for replying so quickly. i will try it with the sound packs and check the MIDI settings. the sound problem is also there when i'm starting ultima7 in DOS with a bootdisk, so i came to the result that i've got a not supported sound card (it's just too new). maybe the sound packs or MIDI settings will do it. i'll see :)

thx

Getting sound in U7 with a bootdisk or not does _not_ affect Exult in any way. Exult just requires that you have a soundcard supported by your operating system.

ok, good to know that.

i've downloaded both sound packs and guess what... it works just fine :)

the last time i've played ultima7 with sound is 4 years ago. you can't imagine how happy i am ^^

and the other features of Exult are also great! resolution and speed settings are more than i've ever imagined! i will mark the day, i've found this fine place, in my calendar.

there is a wavlist in both sound packs, so what do i have to change, if i don't want to exchange the soundfiles everytime i want to switch between BG and SI. i've tried to make folders in the data directory but i guess i've to change the .cfg for that otherwise Exult won't find the files.

You don't need the unpacked version of the soundpack, just the .flx-es. (One .flx for BG, one .flx for SI)
