A problem with Exult 3D

Post by saturo »

Whenever I try the executable I found in the Exult3D-Win archive, and I reach the Black Gate main menu, I receive a runtime error, no matter what I do.

I've changed the scaler in the .cfg file, tried to use different settings, changed the .flx files in the /data directory, using both those of 1.2 version and those of 1.4. Still getting the same error. Any suggestions?

Now it works. Or better, it doesn't. I managed to start a new mage, but everything is still in 2D.

Got it work. I had been moronic enough to not change the scaler into OpenGL.

Runs like @!#$, but it's quite impressive anyway. Anyone knows if there are news or a newer version than this?

I've never seen a so cubersome interface since I played The Ringcycle. Isn't there a way to improve controls or something like that.

Still VERY impressive, though. I managed to get around Trinsic and got quite amazed.

As far as I know file dated 11.1.2005 is the latest available and Sam(Samuel) Matthews, the person who developed it never released source code (I might be wrong) for it so no-one but he him self could develop it further. So unless that happens or he releases the source, no further development will be made (if he even has it anymore).

I just went to his site (http://www.sammatthews.com/) and he seem to be working on game called Prez! (http://prezgame.com/), a US presidential election game. Someone could try to get in contact with him thru that game site to ask if he still has the source of Exult3D if he would be willing to release it.

You are wrong about this; he *did* release the source. He has stated before (in #exult, IIRC) that he took Exult3D as far along as he intended. Some of the reasons why Exult3D hasn't been added to CVS or anything like it are that (a) it didn't work for everyone (I, for one, couldn't get it to work), (b) no one in the team was too interested in going over all the changes and add it to CVS.
