please help (serpent isle)

Post by sdakfsfbagfob »

I'm having trouble running the whole Part II, which is Serpent's Isle, and the Silver Seed. Exult doesnt seem to read the files once i had them copied onto my hard drive from the cd. I have exult 1.00, and i use Windows XP home edition, which installed Exult for me. I then copied the Part I files for Black Gate and Forge of Virtue off my "Complete Ultima VII" cd, moved the static folder from that into exult, and it read it and I started playing it, and i remembered i had beaten Part I already, but not Part II. I tried installing Part II and then moved the static folder for Serpent's Isle into exult, and it didnt read Part II. I even took out the Static Folder for Part I, and it then said that it couldn't detect either files from Black Gate or Serpent's Isle in Exult. This is getting irritating since i only wanna play Serpent's Isle, and it wont read it. If anyone can help me, i'd really appreciate it.

I know the stuff in http://exult.info/docs.php#installation gets a bit confusing but you are really doing it wrong.
Copy the whole dirs for the two games to HD, then EDIT (meaning open with notepad) exult.cfg. Don't forget to do this. Follow the loose guide at http://exult.info/docs.php#path_config

look at that part of exult.cfg:

.

This is the same in your cfg file for Blackgate and Serpent Isle.
That is not possible as you cant ahve both games in the same dir and have both working correctly.

let's say you installed the black gate to c:\ultima7 and serpent isle to c:\serpentisle
your exult.cfg should look like:

c:\ultima7

(default)

jmsfx.flx

c:\serpentisle

(default)

jmsisfx.flx

(the rest of the file doesn't matter to this problem now).

You see where I changed the stuff. Change it according to where you have BG and sI installed.

I can understand editing the paths is a little confuseing. I almost killed myself trying to figure it out (as well as a few ugly little kinck nacks that got thrown to the wall *grin*

If you do not want to edit the .cfg file I suggest deleateing everything you have and starting from scratch.

What I did was before doing anythign I whent to my C: drive. I then made a folder called ultima7. Inside that folder I made a folder called blackgate and another folder called serpentisle. Then I whent to my cd and the contents of each folder into the apropreate folder on my c drive. I then instaled exult into the main ultima 7 folder. When you run the install it asks you to specify the folder in wich each game is instaled (black gate first then it asks for serpent isle)

After doing this it 'should" work. Either that or I just got mega lucky *winks*

If you need to q me it is in my profile *grins*

That sounds like the proper procedure, yes. The installer should setup everything correctly.

I just installed Ultima VII to C:\ultima7, Serpent Isle to C:\serpent and put Exult in C:\Program Files\Exult

Then I just put the absolute path to U7 and SI in Exult.cfg:

c:\ultima7

... some other stuff ....

c:\serpentisle

.... more stuff ....
