Crash To Desktop!?

Post by Daniel Howard »

Hey Guys I believe I have found a bug on the Beta (and Cvs.97)! I am using a GeForce 2 GTS video card and a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 on WinXPpro. When I get close to where Fitch should be at the end of the cave that leads to the northern wastes, the game crashes to the desktop. I have also been experiencing sporatic crashes to the desktop when I save my games. I have a dump from Stderr.txt and Stdout.txt.

Stderr.txt ==

see the FAQ on how to do bug reports to our bug tracker. We need a savegame to reproduce bugs.

Could you submit a bug report with a savegame soon before the crash occurs? Thanks.

I am having problems getting the file to attach to the bug report. The first time I tried it said the file was too large so I zipped the file and attached it and got an error. The bug is submitted but with no attachment. Is there anyway i could send the .sav to one of you directly?

Where exactly did it crash for you? I walked all the way to the nothern wastes without encountering a crash. (It could be that we already fixed it the last couple of days, though)

Just as you start to see blood on the ground. The Coordinates in hex are (0357, 0537, 00)I got todays latest snapshot. Did you test it on XP pro? It's crashing everytime with me?!

Hm, I tried it with a Voodoo5, SB live!, XP pro. No crash for me!
(and to be a bit picky, you should submit a savegame near where you get the crash not some stairs away :-))

thanks. What wjp and me talked about is that your savegame was obviously started before the beta1. We clearlyy state in the README.1ST.txt that you need to start a new game with the beta1. There may be problems like that being still present in old saves.
Please start a new game and teleport next to that point to the map and see if the game still crashes for you.

Your right on a new game it doesn't crash. Man, That sucks!! I don't want to start over.... I guess I will run the pre beta snap shot..hehe.
Thanks guys...and I am sorry about sending you on a wild goose chase. I only ready the FAQ...I guess that calls for a flogging..hehe

Aehm, that bug won't go away and others won't go away too.
We are talking about bugs that got fixed between Alpha5 and Beta1. Some of them are still in old saves (you will probably run into another with the gwannis). You will run into them and you won't like it. So if you want to play in full glory start a new game.
And you probably won't like it if on every bug you encounter we can only say "This got fixed. Start a new game."

I Understand. I am not going to be sending you bug reports like that anymore (I actually read Readme.1st). I Understand that if I were to use the last snapshot before the beta that it will probably have those bugs. Btw, I completely uninstalled Exult and then Reinstalled the latest Snapshot and my savegame doesn't crash anymore...:-) I will start a new game to be on the safe side anyway. Thanks
