Floor Tiles

Post by CrocketttBoy »

Okay, I must be missing something in Exult Studio. I can't seem to drag and drop floor tiles, etc. onto the map. Items, walls and people work fine. When I tried to do it with "Edit Terrain" activated, it worked, but it changed that square in EVERY chunk. I'm not very computer friendly, but I'm doing my best because I've always wanted to create my own world in U7. Any help would be great. Thanks!

The challenge is understanding that Ultima7's map shares chunks, where a chunk is a 16x16 area of flat tiles. Suppose (since I don't have anything here to look at) that chunk #7 is composed of grass. Since there's lots of grassy areas in the game, the designers may have used that chunk in many different places. When you 'edit terrain' and drag tiles onto chunk #7, you're therefore affecting all those areas.

So here's what you do: Look at the "u7chunks" file in ES, and there should be an option for creating a new chunk. Then drop that new chunk (originally empty, I think, or a copy of an existing one) to the place(s) on the map where you want it, and then drag tiles onto it in 'edit terrain' mode.
