Strike Commander
I know this is off the topic but I was wondering if there is an app similar to exult but for strike commander or wing commander instead of ultima or maybe someone knows how I can get them to work in winxp I`d really like to play those games again
Re: Strike Commander
Wow, I completely wiped this game out of my brains, but yes, Strike Commander was great.
Even though you really couldn't call that "flying".

Re: Strike Commander
I noticed that DOSBOX doesn't claim to be able to play the original Privateer yet, and Strike Commander seems to be the same engine. When I played it two years ago, I had to boot Win98 to DOS to get it to run. Perhaps they'll eventually be playable in DOSBOX.
I think the regular Wing Commanders were well-behaved DOS games, and should play okay inside Windows.

Re: Strike Commander
and on the status page of Dosbox, you can read this:
EMS,XMS memory support but missing EMS VCPI functions
while at the same time the entry for strike commander is:
Install.exe complains about the EMS driver currently installed is not VCPI compliant. Won't install.

Re: Strike Commander
Strike Commander the same engine as Privateer? But Strike Commander had a voxel-type terrain engine, 3D models and 3D cockpit and on the whole, a very different "feel" to Privateer (while flying). Privateer rather seems like an extension to Wing Commander.

Tristan de Inés:
i agree with you, wing commander (I+II) and privateer (I) seem to have a
similar engine.
but strike commander didn't have voxel terrain, i think it was p(l)ain
polygons with simple dithered gouraud shading but without textures.
certain objects on the ground, though, like buildings or fields had textures
on them.
