Exult Studio under Win98SE?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone had been successful in running Exult Studio under Win98SE? I've followed all the instructions pretty carefully, used the snapshots, played with the configuration files appropriately, etc, but nonetheless get an Illegal Operation when starting the Studio either standalone or through the Exult map editor mode. I'll probably just hang out until some more stable releases, but just wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas off the top of their head...

PS, This being my first post here, I just wanted to give a big thanks to the Exult team. Years ago I tried to build a U7 clone/engine from scratch, but failed miserably probably due to a lack of skill Anyway, I was overjoyed to find Exult a few weeks ago,... now it looks as though I may sometime soon live my dream of building an original RPG using the U7/SI engine. They just don't make RPGs like they used to... U7 & SI were the coolest, most alive, immersive games I've ever played, and I look forward to playing other creations with as much depth as the originals. Anyway, I should stop reminiscing... back to work...

You might try searching through the archives of this forum. I think it's supposed to work, but Ryan (Colourless) is the person who really knows.

Actually I had already searched the forums, but hadn't really found anything conclusive. For example, Hyloth reported the same problem as me in the following thread:

But seemingly his problem was not resolved..., and, moreover, other reports of successful use of ES under W98 seem (almost?) nonexistent.

it used to work for me on w98 but since my new pc W9x is not stable enough to run anymore...
