Have you think in a console version ?
Hi!
There are other projects emulating old games that runs on
console systems (http://www.scummvm.org) like Dreamcast or
PS2. Have you think on develop a version for this machines ?
Greetings.

Re: Have you think in a console version ?
We thought about some stuff that would have needed to be done for that but mostly dismissed it. The only machine I think that could do it is the Xbox (and I think someone unofficially ported it some time ago and got it running, not sure though).
The main difference between the other projects is that Ultima 7 is huge. Most of the games ScummVM "emulates" are adventures that don't have more than a screen or two in memory (I could be wrong though, never played any other than The Dig). For Ultima 7 you have to load the whole map and so on.
The Details can be found somewhere in our #exult log

Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Don't you need a license to develop for most consoles?
Re: Have you think in a console version ?
You need to get approval in order to sell games on consoles; you'd also need a dev kit, for most thats pretty much a given.
Cept the PS2. you gots linux with that.

Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Should be an easy port for the PS2 with Linux. But I assume that wouldn't run on non-Linux PS2's.
Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Can you distribute the game with a bootable linux system on CD only?
Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Well, I don't think anyone has done it before on the xbox.
I'm working on porting it to the xbox. I have it running fine (without sound) at the moment with keyboard and mouse attached, and I'm mostly done with adding gamepad support.
I should be able to add in the sound ok.
What sort of memory requirements are needed to run the whole game? I have an xbox with 128Mb memory, and I haven't played much into the game, so I'm not sure if I will run out. Other xbox ports have implemented virtual memory, and I'll just do the same if it is necessary.
Once I'm done, is there any desire to add my changes into cvs?

Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Memory shouldn't be a problem.
And we'd be happy to add the changes into CVS; you'll even get added to the credits! (I'm assuming the changes are compatible witht he other ports...)

Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Actually Exult was already ported to Xbox using the XDK. Of course obviously that couldn't be released.
Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Odd, I can't find any information on someone else porting it.
Re: Have you think in a console version ?
Now I see that someone in your irc channel was mentioning working on it. But apparently it was never released.
Releasing binaries built using the xdk is illegal, but releasing source code is not.
