I want to reinstall Ultima and not lose my saved game...

Hi there, was wondering if you can help....I have just got a version of ultima 7 and serpent isle with forge of virtue and silver seed included whilst previously I was running exult with what I believe are just the normal versions of u7 black gate and serpent isle. I want to delete my old version of ultima 7, reinstall exult into my new ones that include forge of virtue and silver seed, but I want to keep my old saved game and be able to carry on playing it...how do I do this? Which files are the save game files?

Ok it appears you've always used exult.

The save games are in the root of the game directories, IE:

c:\games\ultima7
c:\games\serpent

In those directories you'll find

exult01bg.sav for ultima7

exult01si.sav for serpent isle.

You'll have multiple games though, so you'd probably have a list like:

exult01bg.sav
exult02bg.sav
exult03bg.sav

I think you get the picture.

As for using them on "patched" versions though, I think it does work. I know it does for the original dos version of serpent isle. But the only way is to find out and try it. But it might cause exult to die or become unstable, so I'd recommend just to restart.

Open BG-without-FoV games in BG-with-FoV in Exult won't work. Same for SI-without-SS and SI-with-SS.
