First I'd just like to say you guys are the best for doing this! You're like my heros. I played Ultima for SNES and I've been in love with it ever since.
I've always wanted to play Ultima VII: The Black Gate for PC. I just bought the EA Ultima Collection on CD-ROM, but I'm worried that it may not work with Exult. I know EA is cheap and lazy and may not have spent the time or money to update the original code, but if they did could it still work?
Also, I do have machine running Ubuntu... can I run the game in it's original form with WINE? I don't know much about computers... all I know is that Ultima is insanely fun and I won't rest until I'm playing it again.
Any guidance would be appreciated!!
Thanks,
John

Re: Ultima on WINE
It won't work on WINE, the install might work but that is not necessary. See:
http://exult.info/docs.php#cdrom_install and the following concerning file permissions on *nix systems.

Re: Ultima on WINE
If you want to run the original U7, try DOSBOX. WINE is for windows programs.
Re: Ultima on WINE
That is bad news. =(
I was hoping the CD-ROM re-release would work on Windows 95. Has anyone tried running it on MS-DOS using Microsoft Virtual PC?

Re: Ultima on WINE
Huh? Why don't you just use Exult or if you want the original, use DOSBox (http://Dosbox.sf.net), also a Dos Emulator, only much nicer than MS VPC and much more compatible to Dos games (and doesn't need a hard drive image like VPC).

Re: Ultima on WINE
Thanks! Sounds good to me! Exult works with EAs CD-ROM re-release? That was my initial concern.
Re: Ultima on WINE
Yes, of course it does, that's why I gave you the link to our documentation on how to install this version for Exult.
