Sound Effect in Ultima 7

Post by Thorfkin »

Any time you dropped an item in Ultima 7 it made a sound. That sound effect appears to be missing from Exult. Its not serious or anything but it did add an indescribable something to the way the game felt when you were moving things around. Would this be easy to implement in Exult? :)

Probably easy. Did all objects make the same sound? I'll give it a try in the original in a little while.

A remember a thud sound when stacking objects, and removing those on the bottom of the stack, in SI.

Yes. And it seems to occur anytime you move an object, even within your backpack.

Ah, I couldn't remember if it did it then or not.

One other thing I remember happening ONCE in BG (it was weird) One time, I ran into some headlesses in Deep Forest. from what I remember, I had recently died along with Dupre. Well, one of the damned bugs that occured in the original (or maybe it was just my copy? Probably no such luck) was that when a character was ressurected, particularly via a ressurection spell, their equipped items would get all disorganized (sometimes they'd vanish, too... that was really annoying)
Well, it just so happened that Dupre had his backpack in his right hand, and his weapon on his belt.

When I initiated combat...

Dupre hurled his backpack at the headless! It went flying across the screen. I freaked out since his bag was full of good stuff. Luckily it landed safe and sound on the ground on the opposite side of the screen. :/ Not sure if that's normal or not.

That was "normal". Party members would loose stuff when they fled combat.

And it's a 'feature' that is not in Exult, and probably won't ever be.

He didn't flee. His health was at full and he literally hurled his backpack at the headless the instant I pressed the combat button, I swear... It freaked me out so bad, I thought the contents of that backpack were gone forever...

Okay, a 'blip' is played when you drop an item. I guessed at the SFX to use, so feel free to tell me I used the wrong 'blip':-)

The sound it makes when you drop an item in the original is the same sound made when you close a window. A sort of 'plop' sound.

I have trouble distinguishing between 'plop', 'plip', and 'blip', but hope to get it right when Exult 1.3 comes out:-)
