Stats carry-over from BG to SI
Often the idea of being able to use the save game of BG to start SI have been contemplated. Of course, if you allow items to be carried over there'd be major trouble (unless they all get beamed away by the magic storm and are never found again). Allowing starting party members other than the Three Musketeers would also lead to major plot problems later on.
So what else can one theoretically take from a BG save game?
Well, stats.
Now, the stats of the Avatar and the Three Musketeers are easy enough to figure out. But what about the stats of the other companions who adventured with you on the quest of the black gate?
One idea is to have their stats transferred to other legally-joinable (ie, not using cheat) people in SI.
While I'm not expecting the Exult engine to implement this feature anywhere in the near future (if at all), I figure it'd be fun to brainstorm who's stats in BG should be matched to that of SI.
BG Joinable NPC list:
Jaana
Juila
Katrina
Sentri
Spark
Tseramed
SI Joinable NPC list:
Automatons
Boydon
Petra
Selina (though doen't join long so I don't usually count her)
Sethys (if you play the game the "right" way you don't get to keep him long, so doesn't really count)
Stefano (ditto)
Mortegro (ditto)
Wilfred
Did I miss anyone?
let the matching begin! Post your suggestions here!

Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
Here are my ideas:
version 1:
Spark -> Stefano (both kind of whiny?)
Jaana -> Petra (one is Justic in love, the other one is a automaton in love)
Sentri -> Boydon (strength)
Tseramed -> Wilfred (the only person left that I frequently use in BG or SI)
Juila -> generic automatons (the tinker vs the tinked?)
Katrina -> Selina (Selina is the only one left that might enter combat in "normal" gameplay).
Sethys, Mortegro uses default stats.
version 2:
Boydon uses default stats, since his initial high strength and low dex/combat matches his character.
Selina uses defaults stats cuz she's an evil b***h.
Sentri -> Wilfred (strong fighters)
Tseramed -> Petra (dex?)
Spark -> Stefano (running out of reasons... "boys"?)
Katrina -> automatons (shepred vs the mass produced herd)
Jaana -> Mortegro (users of magic)
Julia -> Sethys (the last ones left. another semi-rational is that both are really old)

Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
Justic in love? What does that mean?
Tinked? I like it!
I couldn't compare Selina to Katrina. I actually like Katrina, but never thought highly of Selina even before knowing she was an evil b***h.
Sentri -> Automaton
Tseramed -> Stefano
Julia -> Petra
There is no rationale.

Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
Jaana represented the virtue of Justice I thought.
and the association between Justice and automaton is that Justice is kind of "orderly", and automatons are a product of the Forces of Order.
Yeah I like Katrina (though didn't like her portrait, and didn't like to use her as party member) and didn't like Selina, but I was running out of associations in that version d-:

Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
It's pretty crazy to want to do it. At the end of BG your stats are way way way too high for the start of SI.
Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
Yeah, it would be a little boring to take over the stats, since at the end of BG probably all the stats are maxed out at 30, so there's nothing else to do there.
And despite that, it's a known ultima "rule" that after travelling to another world you start out very weak and lose all your powers. Several people mention that in various ultima games.

Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
It's mentioned that when you come from Earth to Britannia, your stats are weakened.
However, it is never stated whether this rule applies between Serpent Isle and Britannia. It would make sense from a background point of view that they could remain the same, since they are both parts of the same world, just disjointed.
From a gameplay point of view, however, it would be far too unbalancing to just straight port, but perhaps if someone where to develop a system...
It would require a lot of rewiriting story-wise, but I think it would be really cool to *choose* who to bring with you to Serpent Isle. Or, at least, to bring some of the female party members, as the only real female party member in SI is kinda ... well ... evil.
I was always partial to Mariah, but she always got second billing.

If it has to fit in with the Ultima rules, well it doesn't even make sense that SI characters would adopt stats from different BG characters.

Re: Stats carry-over from BG to SI
well why not design it so in SI it keeps the visual account of the stats from BG, but treats them as the normal base stats. i understand a lot would have to be tweaked/added (like making it so that the stats can go up another 30 points", but hey, it could work

I still think it would be nice to choose the companions you take with you to Serpent Isle. A lot of work, yes, but that would be very *very* cool.

Actually it's pretty clear that this IS true. Look at your stats the beginning
of BG, and then look at them at the beginning of SI. You (and your party members!) are much more powerful at the start than you were in BG.
So stat-carryover -has- been implemented.

Also the Avatar regains his virginity each time he travels between worlds, that's why you can touch the Unicorn in BG (unless you've been romping around in Buccaneer's Den...)
