spoilers - SI - might be bug

I have never finished SI but I'm well on my way. I'm not sure if what I'm getting is a bug or if it even matters. Anyway, I'm up to




So, my companions have been possessed by the Banes. I know to use the Hound on Iolo's Lute, but I didn't get Dupre's shield earlier in the game, which I believe I also need. However, when I go to Monitor the Pikeman outside the training ground is missing completely, denying me access to both training and more importantly, Luther. I'm sure this is a bug, I don't know when it was caused. I'm not willing to plough through bug reports and the like to avoid ruining the game for myself, so I'm asking here.

So, do I need Dupre's shield? I'm quite certain that I do. If I do, is there a way I can spawn it or the appropriate pikeman? Or can I kill Luther and take the shield? If not, I'd like to know, and nothing more.



BTW, thanks for all the effort you guys have put into Exult. I always wanted to play U7 and finally bought it after realising I could play it. Thanks and anyone who replies please don't ruin any of what's left. Cheers,

I actually finished the game without ever having the hound locate my companions. You just have to have the hound follow Cantra and Batlin.
The missing pikeman is an unrelated bug. If you wait Luther should go somewhere else, but you don't need the shield if you can figure out where to search on your own.

You can cast vibrate & get the shield from Luther. Interesting bug - you can do this in the original SI and then also get it from him the 'correct' way. Then you'll have two of Dupre's Shields.

I don't know if he has it if you kill him or not - or if the above 'cheat' works in Exult.

You didn't need Dupre's shield in the original. The main benefit to it was that it was a magical shield in terms of armor value.
