Love Arrows

I found a bunch of six Love Arrows while hunting around one of the BG dungeons.

I can't work out what they are supposed to do, as I believe these are the only six such arrows in all of BG.

They are pink and shiny, and if I equip them they even have a image on the paper doll - arrows with hearts instead of the normal feathers.

I tried shooting people with them, but they kinda sorta died.

I only found two web links on them, one person had tried to add them to a weapons list here, and another person had documented their attempts at getting the things to work here.

The first thing I did with them was to go to the Jheholm pub and shoot the bar girl who had sent her fiance off to find a unicorn, as I'd never been able to resolve that quest to my satisfaction.

Anyway, if they DO do anything special, is that effect emulated by Exult? Or should I load the original up, and go on another romp with the things?

hmm, i am not sure, but arent there some love arrows in the alama's big store house on new magicnica?

I'd look up the shape in ES and see if there's a usecode function associated with it.

The Charm flag is set on that shape under ammo.

Yep. In the original I seem to remember I got them to charm people. Never had much use for them.

Hmmm... That means that if you attack someone, they won't attack you back.
However, the guards will still get called.

Charm arrows! Perfect sense. I would expect such arrows to deal less damage, and be in greater quantity... an easter egg maybe.

Are there any other sources of the arrows besides that dungeon? I haven't checked Alagner's fort yet...

I just tried them in the original, and they do charm the victim.

I've just implemented this in Exult, and it lasts 30-60 seconds. A charmed monster will glow blue and might attack other monsters. Your chance of successfully charming your opponent is partly random, and depends on your intelligence.
