OK, replaying Black Gate, and seem to remember that you're supposed to learn of the Magebane from a book or scroll somewhere... Does anybody remember where?

Buggers me, I just found one while strolling through the great marsh.

And the only thing I can think of is when you fight the liche in silver seed and he mentions something about the magebane powers if you have one at the time.

I dove into the usecode, and the only references to the MageBane are in SI. One is Lord British's scroll with the list of equipment, and the other is Vasculio's deal. I searched them ignoring the case, and also tried as separate words "mage bane" with ignore case, too.

That's strange.

Now that I think about it, maybe you are mistaken, and the book you found was the one referring to Stonegate.
