saves from Mac -> WinXP

Post by BobTheAvatar »

Ok, I seem to be having a problem which I'm sure is entirely my fault.

I installed Exult on a WinXP system by copying both the Ultima installed folders (ultima7 and serpent) from my MacOSX.3 (running the last beta before 1.2) to CD, then to WinXP. Changed permissions on the copied directory to get rid of the ReadOnly thing.

The game runs just fine, but it seems my saved games aren't showing up in WinXP. Is there a file from the Exult directory that I need to copy over as well?

Just copying the savefiles to the right directory should do the trick. Exult saves are named exult??bg.sav and exult??si.sav.

I'm not entirely sure what the default savegame path in Windows is, but if you start a Black Gate game, the file stdout.txt should have a line

Savegame: (some directory)

That directory is the savegame directory for the Black Gate.

I had already tried to start a Serpent Isle game

Savegame: c:\games\exult\ultima\serpent

Though really the save files are in
c:\games\exult\ultima\serpent\saves

The files are named in the format exult##si.sav like you said... moving the files to the first directory makes them work properly, but on my Mac I don't believe I ever had to tell it to put the saves in a separate folder

Is there a .cfg line I can add to change this or should I just not be so anal?

Yeah, you can change the savegame path. Check the documentation at
http://exult.info/docs.php#dir_config .
