Saving Cantra
I've been wondering why there is no way to save Cantra when she seems to suffer the same problem as Gwenno and Gwenno was pretty easily cured.
After some online searching I discovered that this was something the game designers intended to put in but forgot, and the same source also said the Exult staff were going to fix it in the Exult version.
So, has this been fixed yet? I know it's not vital to the plot, but it's another one of those quests which don't really get resolved, which sucks.
If Cantra gets cured, what would she do? Her father and the whole town of Monitor is basically dead, so no "fighter" culture to be part of...unless she wants to go around slaying Goblins singlehandedly.
Maybe she'd chuck the whole wannabe-fighter thing and join the monks instead. Seems pretty peaceful there on Monk Isle.

Re: Saving Cantra
You make a good point. She should stay on Monk Isle.
Re: Saving Cantra
Her mother's still around though, and given the conditions in Monitor, could probably use a hand (in fending off critters if nothing else)...

You want to save Cantra? Bring her to the crematorium and pull the lever.
I mean, her choices are:
- being possessed by a malevolent entity
- staying forever on a monk isle listening the bells and eating roots
- live in her beautiful house in monitor, surrounded by dead bodies
Or maybe she could return to Britain with Iolo Dupre and Shamino, where she can (depending on who will adopt her)
- experience pre-teen alcohol addiction
- stay forever in the woods listening birds chirp and eating mushrooms
- craft arrows and arches 16 hours a day underpaid and forced to listen to "sea shanty"
Not to mention she would be probably make a guest apperance in the marvelous world of neversleeping puppets also known as Ultima 9.

"world of neversleeping puppets"? I've never played U9. Please don't tell me the NPCs don't have schedules.

I guess she already told youI've never played U9. Please don't tell me the NPCs don't have schedules.
Also it's funny how the game overcrowds with skeletons. Since skeletons rebuild after a while, and they also spawn, there is a time when there are so many of them that you have to run around so they don't trap and kill you.
And no, the game doesn't remove them when you are away for some time, they will stay there the whole time, and you will always see more skeletons every time you pass by graveyards and such places, since the game spawns more when you approach.

Ok, we won't tell you that.

Hehe I think you mention that yes. Make sure you're alone so Dupre doesn't jump in the way.
What's wrong with mushrooms?
Hear the bells!

Sbx:
Notice that Cantra and Dupre wear more or less the same kind of armour (and the very idea of a childsize armour is enough to issue the crematorium solution) so she may even jump in the fire all by herself!
Gradilla:
She = He, anyway stop now! I made a mistake, don't add more to that: we shouldn't tell people about U9, they have to experience that by themselves. I mean, only by playing it one can fully grasp the abysmality of the Troll being a scaled version of a goblin (with the same textures too)... oops, I did it again!
But I digress, and in a dangerously offtopic direction.
We really have to save Cantra from the Usecode Bane.

Heh, they should have scaled up the whole world instead. That way they could have included horses and wouldn't have made the landmass into a set of islands to make you feel the world is huge... oops, it slipped out, sorry...I mean, only by playing it one can fully grasp the abysmality of the Troll being a scaled version of a goblin (with the same textures too)...

Re: Saving Cantra
We have a usecode patch that lets you cure Cantra by dumping the right water on her. Currently, it's only available as source as 'content/si/usecode.uc' in our source tree, so it's not easily usable.
To use it, you'd first have to compile it:
ucc -o usecode usecode.uc
That should produce a new 'usecode' file. You'd then have to create a 'patch' directory where you have si installed (so 'patch' is at the same level as 'gamedat' and 'static'), and move the 'usecode' file into 'patch'.
Eventually, I'd like to include compiled patches as part of our distribution so they just work automatically.

Re: Saving Cantra
Keep in mind that the people of Monitor (and the other cities) aren't destined to be dead forever. The Silver Seed is somehow supposed to help in bringing them back.
Re: Saving Cantra
Yech. The more I hear about U9, the less I even want to get it. Even Pagan turned me off. (Not being in Britannia was odd, but livable. Not being able to chose my gender was ridiculous. Heck, I was upset in U4 that I couldn't be a Fuzzy Other anymore. But Pagan's user interface was what really turned me off. I kept accidently dying in Tenebrae by walking into the water. It's just too difficult to control your movement. Walking should _not_ be dangerous.)
Re: Saving Cantra
Ok, let's recap
Ultima 1-3 : your gender can be fuzzy
Ultima 7b : you can't save poor cantra
Ultima 8 : a trashcan on your head
Ultima 9 : a ultima themed mission pack for Tomb Raider
Peace out

U9: A cheap imitation of Zelda mixed-up with Tomb Raider
