Spell effects damage value?

Post by Thomas Decker »

Does anybody know how much damage the spell effects do in comparison to the weapon values? (Sword - 6, Glass sword - 127, etc...)

If yes, where could I find that list?

For example, I was looking for the magicians wand damage code and couldn't find it anywhere - though its rather a weapon than a spell.

Or the spell weapons that NPC mages wield (e.g., Mortegro in SI) - since Mortegro can join you for a while, wouldn't it be interesting to know how much damage he could do?

As a side note - Has anybody noticed that tongs do as much damage as a sword? WT#?

Spells do damage by firing special weapons. These are listed in our 'weapons.txt' file, although that file is pretty far out-of-date.

Magic Storm does things a little different, though. (Which is why it doesn't do _any_ damage, the last time I checked)

What is Magic Storm supposed to do? I don't recall ever noticing, even when playing the original BG.

It throws random lightning strikes at nearby enemies. The function that should apply the damage hasn't been implemented yet, IIRC.

In the docs/ directory in CVS. You can get it through SF's webCVS:

Thanks. Are these the values used in the original game?

(Meaning that the lightning wand and the magicians wand both do 8 pts of damage - Shouldn't the charged lightning wand do more damage?)

this file is _very_ old. (It's created by exult 0.30, as you can see in the header)
I'm not sure how correct the values are.

Corp Por spell in U7BG sometimes just plain _kills_ the opponent, not fires a missile which will obey the usual missile logic.

That was the idea of Corp Por in BG - instantly kills the targeted opponent.

Right, but the point is that the spell cast a missle, which could miss the target. Without the missle, it just plain kills without the probability of missing, making it a whole lot easier. Just an observation :)

The walkthrough by Dan Simpson has quite extensive weapon damage values, but not for spells or wands.

BTW, I've just hopped to Erstams retreat - "Cheaters never win" :)
In the armory there are 2 wands I don't know - could one be the dreaded Wand of Detainment?
