Yeah, I agree. That's a real downer for me. I don't have DS, and I certainly cannot imagine M$ producing a Linux version of it anytime soon! Ah, well. We could do with more projects using Exult, really...

I take the chance to bring back the subject: "why remaking someone else's world?". Take Lazarus itself: great efforts on content production, a wonderful homepage, hours and hours of work... but in the end it will be Ultima V, again. I keep thinking that the ultimate goal of any kind of creation should be freeing your imagination and make it concretize, bring your vision to life. This is "refreshing" someone else's vision, and.. I don't know, it's my personal opinion, but it feels like a waste of talent.

I think there's nothing wrong with remakes. Just like musicians make song remixes, to add their special touch to a song they like, or as a tribute to a band they respect, there`s always going to be people listening to the remix to enjoy that same song in a different style.

Some people may even start listening to that song, that otherwise would never have gotten to know it. ;)

That's true. I'm glad the Lazarus project finally have their release ready but I'm also saddened that it only works with Dungeon Siege. Well, maybe DS1 will one day be found in the sales bin of a store. Right now DS1 can not easily found in my area (of course I'm sure you can get it in an online store, ebay and such).

Just wish someone would do one of these things without being tied to something like DS or NWN...

But then, I can count on my fingers of no hands the number of opular fan remakes that didn't use a pre-existing engine like AGS, DS, Morrowwind, or NWN. :)

yep, there's that. But then I can't think of any popular remake :)

I still think the UO engine is the best version of Britannia and would like to see people using it to make single player remakes. Also, the client is free to download.

I'm looking forward to Lazarus, though.

Um, are there any "non-popular" remakes that are released or have a release date? I wasn't aware of any.

Graphics or engine upgrade (such as Exult) don't count as remake to me.

Oh, some have release dates, but anyone into gaming should know not to trust the dates these people give us ^_~

PanSola, you can use Exult Studio to remake Ultimas (with enough talent/skill/patience/etc.!), so that's a little more of a grey area.

Well there's Exult the project, and then there's Exult the engine.

I would count any projects of Ultima 6 or 8 using the Exult engine as remakes, but not Exult project itself.
