12-26 snapshot is botched

Post by FitzRoy »

I installed the newest snapshot (12-26) and it says it can't find the data files for bg or si. So to make sure, I uninstall exult, install the snapshot and it still won't work. Am I just doing something dumb or can someone confirm this?

I think you just install the snapshot, without uninstalling Exult first.. at least thats what I do.

I did install it like that the first time. I've probably installed it 10 times now and the same thing happens, even on the new 12-27 snap. It says it can't find the data files for either game. So I go into the cfg file, and it's listed like this:

c:\program
files\ultima
collection\ultima7

Now here's what's interesting: The original beta1 install DOES work, so I'm pretty sure that the snapshot is messed up. Here is what IT'S config file looks like:

c:\program files\ultima collection\ultima7

Additionally, during the install program of the snapshot, at the part where you enter the paths for the games... I notice that it saves the paths of the games from the previous install so you don't have to browse for them again. However, they come up as

c:\program

So it looks like there's a problem with space recognition because it's broken up at the spaces in the snapshot cfg file, and then the install problem above. Also, changing it to one line doesn't fix it as it reverts back to the three split lines.

Anyone?

The path name should be on the same line. Rather than using long filenames, try changing it to:
c:\progra~1\ultima~1\ultima7
This is the pure dos pathname and should work if long filenames are not handled correctly.
Did everyone have a good Christmas!
