Max: what is Pol. Is it also another server system that uses uo as client?

SB-X: I could be wrong, since I only played it (SNES U7) for less than 10
minutes and got killed and stopped (just merely testing out all the games
my friend has in his house). And it's at least 3.5 years ago, so many
recollections may have been corrupted by what I felt instead of what
I observed.

With that disclaimer aside, "If I Recall Correctly", first there's those
"squares" that determines space on the world. Like if you move up,
you move up a square. mmm... don't remember much. Maybe it's just
the graphics quality and not the interface itself that was similar to PC
U6. Mmm.... arg, really can't remember now. It feels turn-based,
though I'm not sure about that either. There's no direct drag-and-drop
support, I think. And of course, no mouse (I think controler controls
movement directly, unless you press an action key and need to select
a target...).

My memories are failing me )-:

If anyone has played SNES U7 and says anything different from my
experience, then listen to him and not me d-:

I think my guilders are depreciating. I should convert them
to monitorians before they become worthless pieces of magic paper...

Yeah, you should get rid of your guilders ASAP, since they've been replaced by the Euro at the start of 2002 ;-)

Yeah POL is a server - emu, the advantage is, it's (nearly) totally scriptable.
i have already done a lot of cool stuff with its scripting language (using pol for 1 year now). made a web interface which can show character information on off and online players and show there location on a map. you can also send server packets to the client from these scripts... a lot of nice stuff. take a look at it:
pol.tumbolia.org (looks outdated, but it's still active(just not on the site:)))
i started to make a shard once, but i haven't found a host and gave it up, now im workin again on one, but ill probably just let people download it.

I have U7 SNES (as mod for an emulator)
but the similarities to U6 are in my eyes just the graphics quality. I havent played it much.
It more reminds of the other Console RPGs ala Zelda.. Combat is when you equip a weapon use the weapon button and hope the enemy runs into your swing often enough. But too often they pop up rather close to you and you die before you can react.
And you are all alone. No party and the plot has changes as well (just as far as I played it: Christopher the blacksmith gets kidnapped, no word of Inamo.)

game graphics

Carlos brought up a point on graphics, which started me wondering.

How does Ultima 9 rank in terms of graphics (and only graphics please)
compared to other games? Carlos said if he were moved by graphics
solely, he'd be playing Quack 3 arena. So can I safely assume Quack 3
arena has better graphics than U9?

not having played much games in 3D other than U9 and the final
fantasy 7~9, I'd really appreciate some comments (again, on graphics
only).

quake 3 has for it's kind of game(pfs) really good graphics, but it doesn't have to deal with all the items(and landscape, which i all like), like in u9, (physics of them...) npcs and stuff, so i can't really say which one has better graphics.

I think you need to put the part about reading the FAQ in larger, brighter bold faced type. :) Or just ignore people who as the same questions over and over. Or... say "Its already in there, but you have to own a copy of "Ultima VII Part 3: The Knights Who Say 'Nee!'"

i think the u9 engine sucked ass. i cannot understand why they made it the way they did. it was almost completly dependent on if you had the right kind of video card to run(voodoo) at the time of release. you needed a really beefy system to run at, at the time it came out, and while it was nice...i think it could have been streamlined differently...the best grafics to date in a computer game atm i would say is doom3 running on john carmack's box. best commercial grafics...probably return to castle wolfeinstein, which uses a heavily modified quake 3 engine. the worlds of warcraft engine would have been great for u9. it has bumb mapping and nice things like that, which makes it looks all nice and shiny.

Uh... considering U9 came out a year or two ago, and WoW is not yet out, I think there's a good reason why they didn't use its graphics engine.

Duh?

U9 ran decently on my el-cheapo K6-2/350 with 64Mb RAM. True, I also had a Voodoo3, but I purposely bought it >just< so I could play U9.
