[slightly OT] pentagram / u8
hi all,
since the exult team is working on pentagram I thought that would be a good place to ask the question.
I've just finished u8. I must say I was very disapointed when I first played and refused to touch it but I forced myself to play again and now that I am finished it, I must say it is not too bad.
One thing though, is that I don't understand the ending. Since the Avatar goes through the black obelisk, shouldn't he go to britannia ? Why do we see him watching over a world that looks like Pagan? and what's the story with the big stone in shape of the guardian ?

i could be wrong, but that is britannia, it leads into u9. as we know the guardian was in britannia while the avatar was gone, since u9 wasn't in development at the time i think they used that because that is what they thought the u9 britannia was going to look like when they made that game. i could be wrong...anyone else have any ideas on it?

I believe you're right, which of course raises the question of what the Avatar is doing asleep on Earth at the beginning of U9.

The black Oblesk was supposed to lead to the Guardian's home world, whatever that was. I've heard from someone else that Origin had intended for there to be an Ultima 8 part 2 (like Serpent Isle was to U7). Reports are sketchy, and I assume that U8.5 didn't make it as far a The Lost Vale add-on for U8.

that's it then! we've got the base for a new game based on ExultStudio:
the story of the passage from the black obelisk to Earth.
The avatar lands in the Guardian's home world and for some reason after many quests he goes back to Earth. That would make a perfect bridge between u8 and u9!
What do you guys think?

Originally it was meant to be at Guardian's homeworld, but quite soon it turned to be at Britannia, as Garriott understood, that people want see good ol' lands again.

also no one has any idea about the big guardian shape rock we see at the ending? Is it a rock actually or just the guardian himself ?
Anyways, what does the exult dev team think of this use of ExultStudio, that is creating a game that makes the bridge between u8 and u9?
Ultima 8 part II, voyage to hell

Re: [slightly OT] pentagram / u8
I think the U9 team meant for that place to be Terfin - funny that they even bothered including it in U9, since they obviously disregarded almost all other Ultima lore. *cough*Skull of Mondain*cough*

Er, no. But Mondain's skull is now conveniently on display in the Britain Museum, hehe.
The gigantic Guardian head is basically the Guardians HQ that he setup in Terfin.

"Don't touch that, you'll get fingerprints on it!"
"Don't touch that, it's very delicate!"
"Don't touch that, it's a pain to set up like that!"
"Don't touch that, you'll annihilate all life on this planet!"

Is the Guardian's home world the anti-Britannia from UW2 or not? I never
found a sufficient nod either way.

Re: [slightly OT] pentagram / u8
hmm, i have no clue, cause i never played through either of the games:( only like the half, then i haven't had more time, so i lack abit of info.
what i think is, that this coming to earth was needed for the tutorial and char creation, not more, if you just leave that out, it kinda fits.
cause when the avatar arrives on the "guardian homeworld"(im not sure of that though:)) he stands on this mountain and this wyrmguard dragon rider comes... and in the background theres this destructed landscape and this guardian head cave. and he gets teleported to stonegate. so we could imagine when he arrives on this mountain, he gets at this point teleported to brit.
