Feature request: move ~/.exult to a proper place (~/.config,

Post by Xodetaetl »

Hello, I'm requesting this to all the apps that pollute my home. I'd like it to be a clean place someday. Thanks to participate ! ;)

It's rather well done for OS X but still uses ~/.exult on linux.
Maybe one day ;)
If you want to participate log a request in our feature tracker. And maybe offer good location alternatives. Maybe even file a patch ;)

currently i think the stuff goes into
~/.local/share/name_of_app for overrides of shared things things on the root hierarchy (note: this doesn't mean that stuff in here is accessible for all users)

~/.config/name_of_app for things that are just configuration files.

I guess ~/.config/exult is the right dir, for config files and something like /usr/share/games/exult is the right dir for the bios files (in fact, the package i build uses this one to place the games and keyring & sifixes mods).
However i used ~/.exult for looking for the mt32 roms. It's just easier than asking for the roms on install of the game (especially considering they are optional).

I'm pretty sure it might already work; exult has a hierarchy of paths where it looks for stuff and i'm pretty sure this is the reason i can stuff things into /usr/share/games/exult after changing the compile time option 'data dir' and things work.

It's just a question of changing ~/.exult to ~/.config/exult.

(I'm sure you mean game files instead of bios files :))

Both actually. The 'mt32 rom' is a digitalization of a bios.
