Sound problem in linux

Post by Todd »

Great job guys, I was really thrilled to find this project and break out the old Ultima 7! I'm having a weird sound problem though.

Exult compiled without problems and seems to be running fine. I can hear sounds and play the intro as expected. The problem is that there is a loud repetitive (around 0.5 Hz) static sound that is superimposed over the music/sound effects. It essentially continues nonstop making it very difficult to hear what is going on.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on? I am using Redhat 7.2, KDE 2.2.2, and a SB live card (with whatever driver Redhat installed by default).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is some additional info. Looks like I'm using timidity (although truthfully I have never messed with midi on this machine before, so I should just have whatever is the default.

Exult version 0.98rc1
Built at: Mar 14 2002 10:44:21
Compile-time options: HAVE_TIMIDITY_BIN, USE_EXULTSTUDIO, HAVE_ZIP_SUPPORT
Compiler: gcc, version: 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)

Platform: Linux version 2.4.18-rc2
Data path = data
Internal cheapass forked timidity synthesiser
