Trouble getting sound to work
I just recently downloaded Exult, and I can't seem to get the sound working. I got the jmsfx and jmsisfx files, Black Gate is installed to c:\u7\bgate, SI in c:\u7\si, and the sound files to c:\exult\data. Exult.cfg is pointing to all the right places, but I'm still getting no sound when I run Exult. Does anyone know what might be wrong?
Re: Trouble getting sound to work
1. Did you read the Documentation?
2. did you enable sfx? (in the game press ESC to get to the options menu)
3. Make sure that you have the sound not turned down in your OS.

Re: Trouble getting sound to work
I can't say that I've comprehensively studied all the documentation, but I've looked through everything without finding any help, and yes, indeed, I have sound enabled and turned up.
Re: Trouble getting sound to work
Are the icons next to "The Black Gate" and "Serpent Isle" in the main menu crossed out ? If so then your exult.cfg is not pointing at the right files.
Re: Trouble getting sound to work
No, both games actually run fine, just without sound. I haven't experienced any other problems with either game other than that.
Re: Trouble getting sound to work
You mena, no - the speaker icon is not crossed out or no, the game runs fine?
And do you hear the music?
And what soundcard do you have?
If the speaker icon is crossed out in the main menu make sure that you entered the correct name in exult.cfg.
It's quite easy to make the mistake of writing jmsfx.sfx instead of jmsfx.flx or something like that

You might want to tell them to read the faq too, Nadir

Re: Trouble getting sound to work
I'm not sure I know what icons you're talking about, Nadir and Dominus. There's nothing next to any of the options in the main menu of Exult.
I can play both of the games without any problem, but I have no sound, including no music. The only other problem I've experienced is that the program hangs on exiting, forcing me to use the task manager to close it.
My sound card is some kind of cheap generic brand, which I know sounds suspect, but I have been using it for something like five years now with all kinds of different games and its never given me a problem.

look at http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/~a9848357/exult/screen.jpg
If you are using the latest official release and sfx are working it should look like that. If the speaker symbols are crossed out you don't have sfx set up correctly. If you have no speaker symbol at all, install the latest release or snapshot.

Re: Trouble getting sound to work
Well, how about that. I thought that I had the latest version, but I was indeed wrong, and updating fixed every problem I was having. I apologize for being such a doofus, and thank you all very much for your patience.
