Hi there,
I've been playing Blackgate and Forge of Virtue on my BeOS version of Exult, and they run great. Problem is, I can't find any way to load Serpent Isle and Silver Seed. Is this possible on the BeOS version of Exult?
I have all the proper data files and I've edited the .cfg file so it is properly pointing at the right directory. But Exult always tells me that it can't find the data files.
Anybody got an Exult .cfg file they might be able to send me for BeOS that'll run Serpent Isle?

Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
Can you post your exult.cfg file here?
Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
Here's the complete text from exult.cfg. This is the configuration that works for blackgate. The data files for blackgate are in a folder called, appropriately enough, "blackgate" that resides in a folder called "ultima7" that I created. Also in the same ultima7 folder are all the necessary Serpent Isle files, stored in a folder called "serpentisle."
I would have thought that switching from blackgate to serpentisle would have been as easy as changing the "path" config line from ./blackgate, which works fine, to ./serpentisle. But I haven't had any luck with this.
There's probably some simple parameter I'm lousing up somewhere . . . Thanks for the help

Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
I saw this page from the documentation already, actually. It pertains to Windows configuration and not to BeOS; what I was wondering is:
1. Can the BeOS version of Exult run Serpent Isle?
2. If it can, what line can I add to the config file to make it so? Thus far I have pointed it at my serpentisle directory, but to no avail. I'm thinking there must be some other config line that will make it work.
Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

*sigh*
Do you really think I would point you to something not relevant to BeOS?
Read it again. Properly this time.

Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
The configuration file is the same for all platforms, with the exception of a few keys (and of course pathnames might look different).
Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
I read it again; I think the problem here is that the config instructions that are so obvious to you are clear as mud to me. I even went so far as to make an exact copy of the config entries from the link you've referred me to, and it still doesn't work on Serpent Isle (although it plays perfectly on Black Gate and Forge of Virtue.)
I'm thinking that my data files for serpent isle might be corrupt or something (not sure howthey could be, but who knows.)
Thanks for your responses. Exult is a great program, whether I can get it to play Serpent Isle or not.

Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
suggestion: delete your exult.cfg and start exult again. it should make a default exult.cfg and then you will have to adjust the paths again. What is obviouzsly wrong with the above exult.cfg is that the tag is missing and in that one you need to have the path to your serpent isle data files.
Also make sure that your si-data files are still in the static dir and you point to the dir "on top" of that.
A sample exult.cfg could be:
./blackgate
blackgate
(default)
./serpentisle
(default)
And apart from obvious path settings the documentation is for all platforms. Why do you think we have "OS-specific" part in there? Or clearly label it thus ("Windows Midi Mapper" "Linux and Audio")?
So please read the whole documentation and FAQ again with that in mind.

Re: Serpent Isle and BeOS?
Yup, that did the trick! As soon as I followed your tip, Serpent Isle appeared in my Exult menu!
Thanks very much. You Exult guys really know your stuff, and are very decent to offer tips to a newbie like me.
