Oops. I wasn't as through as I thought when I looked the used NPC ids in the game. I've fixed it; and I am fairly convinved that it won't happen in another place.

Wow, that was fast!
The changes you've made are great - I started a new game just to get the feel of them from the start. Thanks for all the effort you've put into this.

Thanks for all the effort you've put into this.
When my BG Keyring mod (which includes the new shrine of the Codex -- see thread) comes out, *then* you will see what is effort. Compared to that, SI Fixes is a walk in the park

From the Exult CVS snapshots. You will have to compile the usecode yourself, though; this means you will have to get UCC if you don't have it already (it is available in the Tools Snapshot).

Well, 2 bugs
1)Gwenno, Iolo, Dupré and Shamino corpse disapear when you try to resurect them
2) I can't cure Cantra with the water of logic

Gwenno, Iolo, Dupré and Shamino corpse disapear when you try to resurect them
You know, giving details can help determine what is wrong. But I managed to find out what is happening -- I wanted to prevent the resurrection of already living NPCs, but forgot to check if they were alive but in the house of the dead... I fixed this one now.
I can't cure Cantra with the water of logic
If you are using the older version, then there is your problem. In the newer versions it works (I just tested it myself).

No it dosen't work. Maybe I trip on an egg or maybe I should cure her before Gwenno.
Marzo, how and when do you cure Cantra?

Never mind. I reinstall your patch. Better to delete the old version of the patch BEFORE Install the new one

I am curing Cantra as follows: start the game as normal and become a Monitor knight, talking to her mother to get the practice sword. That way, Cantra gets kidnapped. I then F3 to the Northern Forest and get the whistle, then go to Shamino's castle. The monks will bring her to Monk Isle. I F3 to the temple of logic, gate in a bucket via shapes browser and get the water of logic. F3 to Monk Isle and use the bucket on Cantra; voila, she is cured.
There are no eggs at all involved, and the only things that are checked is (1) whether or not she is insane and (2) if the water is from logic.

Tell me, does your Serpent Isle patch make changes to the way NPC dueling works? I downloaded the July 8th copy of Exult and whenever I walk near the tournament field in Serpent Isle the guards get called on me and come and attack me. Weird and annoying. I'm just seeing if the patch might be affecting this before I file a bug report.

Strange, it doesn't happen for me. There is nothing in the usecode patch that should affect that, in any case.

I'm having trouble getting the severed hand to work properly. I asked Harnna in Monitor about it and she directed me to Renfry, but I couldn't ask him about it (I am not a knight yet). And shouldn't you be able to ask Renfry about the urn as well? I asked Bucia in Moonshade about the hand, and she directed me to Mortegro. But when I talk to him he asks me to bring the hand to him, even though it is in my inventory!

I haven't touched the usecode of any of these characters; these issues are not being caused by the patch.
In any case, I figured out the issue. Except for Esrtam, all characters you mention (and all others that talk about the hand, but except Renfry) look for a specific frame -- frame zero. However, the hand is animated -- meaning that its frames cycle. Thus, the characters don't see the frame. I will fix this when I get the time.

Animated objects are frozen when they are in inventory, so I should be able to work around this by dropping the hand and picking it up again, right? Provided I manage to hit the right frame.
Re: Question about curing Cantra
Posted: Tue Jul 12, 2005 12:14 pm
by marzo
Yes. It does seem, however, that the hand is still animating while in the inventory (but not while the inventory window is open); if you open your inventory and look at the hand at different points, the frame will be different. This can be seen as a bug... but in any case, the character's usecode is flawed, and I will be fixing it.

So why can't I ask Renfry about the hand? Is that dialogue option simply missing?
Re: Question about curing Cantra

by marzo
You have to talk to Harnna with the hand in the correct frame first. She will say something about the hand seeming to be lost in a battlefield. If she says "What a puzzling mystery!" when you show her the hand, you won't be able to talk to Renfry.

Okay, that works. It doesn't sit too well with me though since she still directs you to Renfry when asked about the hand no matter what.

Talking about fixes in general, how about making that teleporter in the 'football field' work? I mean the secret area that can be reached behind two secret doors, first of which is at the side of the stairs leading to Pothos' house.

Okay, more missing item oddities. I've gotten Pothos to recognize the hand and now in the list it is mentioned that it is from the Mad Mage. However, try as I might I cannot talk to Erstam about it. Meanwhile, Ducio recognized the lab apparatus as one he made for Vasculio, but Erstam claims it is his. What item was supposed to be swapped to Erstam anyway? He mentions losing the apparatus during a storm but doesn't say anything about what replaced it.
Re: Question about curing Cantra

Investigating the situation, it seems to be that the dagger behind the stairs in Erstam's house should be the swapped item.
And I hope you'll add the map of Britannia. I'm fine with the suggestions made about it.
Re: Question about curing Cantra

The hand is supposed to be Erstam's; there is really the inconsistency that he claims the lab apparatus to be his.

Another minor thing that could be fixed: The answer for the last riddle of the dragon in Silver Seed is wrong. The real answer should be 13, but he only accepts 14.

Still more on the bloody hand... When you first get Shamino back into your party he apparently lists the bloody hand only if it is in the right animation frame. This is pretty bad, since if the hand doesn't get listed you can't ask anyone about it.

Yes. The newest version is available tthrough the Exult CVS, but there is a very recent one in ESGuides now which has it fixed already.

After looking around a bit it seems like a problem with the Breastplate of Beauty has been around for some time. You can only mention the breastplate to Kylista (which leads to giving it to her and her telling your magical breastplate appeared in her house) if you haven't heard from anyone else that the breastplate belongs to her (Standarr and Jendon can tell this). Obviously this makes no sense, and should probably be the other way around.

When you kill him, does your god mode is active or not. If no, maybe the guy isn't invicible without god mode and invicible with it
Who knows. A theory

*********
Same here. I smashed him easily, with god mode and without.
A suggestion for future additions:
* Automatons: make it that from some sort of ritual or manipulation of the Create Automaton spell that you can make the gold automatons. Those were cool. Also it would be nice to be able to experiment with the Mind Transferrence device later to go into other automatons than Petra and to do so with the companions too. One of those 'totally unneccesary but would be extremely cool' things.
* Magic: It would be nice if someone could redo the SI magic system so its just an extension of the BG magic as I feel it should be. Things like Clone and Create Gold were cut ... and they were useful. Spells that were disabled in SI (like Fire Snake as mentioned above) should be remade, too...
* Weapons: This is something that would be nice in BG as well as SI, but it would be neat if you could follow the instructions in one book that exists (I know it's in BG but I don't think it is in SI) to forge your own swords, and possibly other weapons.
* Something I plan to contribute: the two-level Moonshade that was cut from the original. Sure it most likely won't be as in the original, but it's still awesome ^_~

About magic: I am planning to do some BIG things in that regard, for BG as well as SI. But it will have to wait until some changes are made in Exult itself (changes for which I am gathering information and doing some thinking, in order to discuss it with other Exult devs).

The odd responses she gives at this time when in party also imply Origin knew some would get her into the party after Batlin's death, using normal game mechanics with no cheats.

Whats cooler! Is... the ability to keep Mortegro in the group without losing him to the red bolt of lighting.
Theres TWO ways to go about it
1. Use serpent bond and quickly exit the Temple and away from the front entrance area. Also! Make sure that Mortegro is wearing warn clothing.
2. Let him die in the temple from frostbite. Then res him else where!
I did that lots time! I agree! Selina makes a good party member to bring back! Even though she suffers from amnesia.
