this would be awesome on a PSP then i could get my friends hooked to ultima...but what made me think about it is the port that EA did for BG to the SNES and to tell the truth their port stunk... it was like the game but it was missing all the qualities that U7 has... (sorry if I got kind of off topic there..)

I'm impressed, sounds like you would have done a lot a work. I hope our code did cause 'too' much trouble. Our memory usage is... quite a bit higher than the orignals that managed to do everything in 2MB.

I've added an addition to the first post on this thread about it.

Excellent job. This is the last platform I would have expected Exult to end up on!

I was just wondering why Exult is so memory hungry when the original Ultima VII was able to run in 4mb? Did Origin really outdo themselves with the Voodoo memory manager, or is Exult just bloated in comparison? I don´t remember a lot of paging in the original game, but maybe I am wrong. Can anyone explain? Don´t take this as criticism, I am merely curious.

I think it's a tidious task and the developers don't really want to do it... :-)

Yes, Exult is bloated.

Secondly, though, I remember my disk thrashing constantly as I walked around in the original.

We should look into memory consumption, but it is very tedious.

Well, I just played it for the last half hour. This is one of the BEST homebrew apps I've ever seen on the PSP. The docs are well organized, the installation is simple, and the controls are *excellent*.

I must say - GREAT job!

Rycher,

as Dominus has told you already: Exult PSP is not created by exult people. They can't help you as they don't know the specifics of a psp. You should contact the people who did the psp port.

I've just read some of the comments on their site, and some problems are listed.

Ok, after doing just 5 mins of reading, it's pretty obvious that the psp version of Exult is a kernel mode app, and so there are two things to note:

1) If you have an older model psp with the newest OE firmware (m33), you need to install the kernel plugin, which I believe is not installed by default. Without it, kernel mode apps will not run.

2) A kernel mode app will not run on the psp *SLIM*, the newest psp hardware revision.

This is why there are multiple versions of psp apps for the older models (seemingly called "phat") and the newer "slim" psp.

I understand (by taking a moment to read) the guys who made the psp version of Exult are working on a version for the slim psp. So, you need to have some patience, yeah? Or, you need to talk to the guys who made that version.

You can actually run ExultPSP on a slim, you just need to use Time Machine.

The website I used to follow for people that developed Exult PSP disappeared. (I'd assume with the development as well) The Artful gamer has since moved onto DS and Wii ports last I heard.

The problem with the PSP port though is that version 1.2 (The one that works with both the Black Gate and Serpent Isle. [flawlessly]) is designed to utilize the 64 megabytes of ram that only the PSP 2000 and up comes with.

Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree but would anyone be willing to undertake a version 1.2 that would work on a PSP 1000 only working with 32 megabytes of ram.

1.1 Works very well on the 1000 but I'm dieing to be able to play the Serpent Isle.

I just don't know if I can justify spending another 150 bucks to pick up a 3000 just to play SI on a handheld... I'v come very close though. :^D

I'v got the pocket PC stuff but its just not as easy to use as the PSP with the analog stick and what not.

At the very least could anyone guide me in the right direction?

Sorry about the double post.

Let me clarify PSP Version 2.1 only runs on the psp 1000 and only runs The Black Gate. V2.2 is the version that runs both but requires 64mb of ram. (PSP 2000+)

Yeah you can find both versions anywhere...

Anyway... Someone gotta start working on me an adequate port for the 1000 so I don't end up buying a 100 dollar copy of SI! :^)

I noticed that last night. Fun times. Hopefully we'll see some of the new updates implemented into the PSP port.
