BG bug: disappearing corpses

I think many of the problems I have had are related to disappearing corpses.
It took me about an hour (and, finally, a trip to a walkthru site) to find out that the Sultan's harpy had the key. When I killed her, the corpse would not show up. Similar problem in a number of places. Currently, I'm stuck in Deceit because there is no moongate or anything else for me to go thru. Confused usecode? Missing item? Disappearing corpses at work? Ditto for Despise (not the one where the magic carpet is found).
