During the u7 intro and in game the only sound I hear is when then guarding speaks, no sfxs and no music. I changed the midi thing from gm to gs to gs127 none of them work. I looked in the stdout.txt file:

Platform: Windows XP Service Pack 1 Version 5.1 Build 2600
Data path = data/
5 Midi Devices Detected
Listing midi devices:
-1: Microsoft MIDI Mapper
0: SB Audigy Synth A [D400]
1: SB Audigy Sw Synth [D400]
2: SB Audigy Synth B [D400]
3: SB Audigy MIDI Port [D400]
4: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
Using device -1: Microsoft MIDI Mapper
Internal Win32 Midiout Midi Player for Exult and Pentagram.
is_installed: 'c:\windows games\ultima vii\static\endgame.dat': yes
is_installed: 'c:\windows games\serpent isle\static\sispeech.spc' : yes
Starting a BLACK GATE game
Current path settings:
Static : c:\windows games\ultima vii\static
Gamedat : c:\windows games\ultima vii\gamedat
Savegame: c:\windows games\ultima vii
Patch : none

Which midi device do I want to choose? I also downloaded the jmsfx and jmsfxsi files so I could extract them into the exult folder but when I tried to open the .cfg file it said I needed a different program. Sorry about the dumb questions, but thank you for this program!

open exult.cfg via the notepad.
make sure your midi music volume is not turned down and not turned off.
Read the documentation and the FAQ

search for files with the file ending .mid on your hard disk, try to play those. if those don't play. check out the multimedia manager in the system control of windows. and please make sure to check the volume setting of the music mixer of windows. if midi is turned off or set very low you can't hear music

Would you stop being so negative?

yes don't be so negative. You wrote that you are a dummy right away after all so that's okay. If you would start beating yourself for not being able to read that would be another story... :-)
that said I'm happy it works okay now for you!
