When I play Ultima 7 the game will pause for about 5 secs every couple of mins. Does anybody know how to stop this? I'm using exult V1.0 and i have a soundblaster pci 512 soundcard and a GeForce 2 64mb 4xAGP grapgics card.

Which operating system are you using? How fast is your machine? How much ram do you have? Is there any noticable disk activity during the pause?

Does it happen anywhere in the game? Or maybe just in dungeons? Just when enemies/monsters are near? Can you still move the mouse during a pause?

Sorry for the large amount of questions :-)

I'm running Windows ME, I have a 1ghz system wth 256 megs of ram. The slowdowns seem to happen everywhere and there is no disk activity. Sometimes I can see the mouse move a tiny bit when the slowdowns happen.

Hey! Don't forget this is all voluntary here! You only gave people 2 days to respond.

BTW, I'd guess it's Windows System Restore.

I've seen this before on ME. Bloody awful OS if you ask me.

or any other application that runs in the background. On my P3-1GHz, 256 MB Ram setup exult runs fine. In XP and ME

It even runs fine on my k6/500Mhz machine. There are occasional slowdowns when there are lots of NPC's around, but it's not very often.

i get the same kinda pauses and my system is almost completely clean, barely any programs to interfere (currently running win 2000) but it happened on my xp system as well, with 512mb ddr it aint the memory that it doesnt like, its something in game, i just figured i have to live with it, and as i been waiting over 12 years to play this game again i think i can live with it :) (how sad am i :P)

Hmm... if it is a bug in Exult, we'd like to figure it out. Perhaps you'll note something in the game that makes it get better or worse.

Any idea if it gets better when you leave all your party members behind?

really, really make sure that none of that ms-crap is running. System-recovery on the one hand and very important the file-indexer service. those can really be a bad influence.
