There's a cave in the mountains surrounding the western side of the Vesper desert. This cave can be reached by passing an invisibile wall. In the little cave there's nothing but debris, and a skeleton holding a scroll.

This scroll says something like "Something blocked the entrance, I will never get out of this cave. If you find this, tell Mythra I love her" then, it's signed "Daniel", and a date (400something) follows.

Sorry for being so vague, but I haven't Ultima VII where I am now, but the question suddenly came to my mind!! Could this be a reference from a older Ultima? Is there something about this in the Usecode?

400 means the time of ultima V: Warrior of Destiny or before

The date on the scroll is 29-2-0227.

As for getting in without teleporting, I havn't found it. Couldn't get out either.

There is a chest in the room with a magic axe, normal boomerang, and 20bolts in it.

I'd never found this room before.

What game would be circa 227?

You can get in by a teleport egg in a room slightly to the NW. (The one with all the dead bodies.)

Getting out: no idea

Yeah, in a nearby room is a teleporter egg. I've never heard of any way to get out, and I've looked around quite a bit. As far as I know, the only way to get out is to cheat, die, or use Recall on a Virtue Stone.

According to Quill Dragon's 'Improved Ultima Timeline' the year 227 is approximately 60 years after the completion of Ultima VI, and just over 40 years prior to the start of Ultima Underworld I and 134 years prior to the start of Ultima VII.
