Monster Spawning

Monsters seem to spawn/respawn way too often. I just searched on this, and found previous posts that conclude "that's the way the original did it." But that's not true; I just verified this with the original game.

Case #1: Path up through swamp east of Britain. Under Exult, there's _always_ a deer to the south of the path, and _always_ some brigands on the path. Under the original (running at very high speed), I went to and from the area, and only encountered the deer and the brigands a few times. The rest of the time, they weren't there.

Case #2: Skara Brae. To see the difference, just try walking through the remains of the town. Under Exult, it's a constant attack of skeletons and ghosts. Under the original, it isn't.

It's almost as if the eggs have a probability factor that's always true under Exult, but not under the original.

Forgot to mention, this is the Mar 13 version for win32 (but I've noticed this with other versions, too).

I, too, found the skeleton and ghost spawning rate at Skara Brae quite annoying...

Another interesting thing is that my exp levels go up extremely fast under exult, much faster than in the original... That's a (nice) side effect on the higher spawning rates.

I'll have to take a look. Eggs do have a probability factor, and Exult is supposed to use it, but maybe something's gotten messed up.

I just checked in a possible fix for this tonight. What I'm not sure of is whether this 'fix' will break anything else, but it definitely eliminates most of the excessive spawning.
