I am very pleased with the Exult team and the many people who contributed to this project, especially Simon Quinn. So how did I do it you ask?
SFX: the Roland MT-32 Soundpack
MIDI: GM setting in Exult
GFX: Point, Full Screen.
So how is that any different? Well I run this on Windows XP with a SoundMAX integrated onboard soundcard. How did I manage to get my SFX and MIDI to sound properly? Easy! This should almost be recommended for this program and any DOS game.
Goto your Control Panel in Windows, then double click Sound and Audio Devices and select the Audio tab. Under MIDI music playback, change your default device from whatever your soundcard uses to "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth." Thats it!
So why does this work? Well Microsoft purchased or leased the Roland MT-32 Wavetable set from Roland back in mid 90s for use with thier OS. This is of course software emulation but it sounds directly like the true real deal. Thanks to Simon Quinn's SFX pack, the game sounds like it should.
