SI Magic

I was just playing Serpent Isle, and got to the Moonshade part where I got my spellbook. I tried to cast Transcribe by double-clicking the spell in the spellbook, but it didn't work. No spells worked.

How on earth do you cast spells?? No matter how I try, it's not working.

Also, the game's crashing every time I try to get into List Field in Monitor. I think this is the famous List Field Bug... so this means I can't get Dupre's shield back, right?

Hm, we had a bug a while back with how the bookmark in the spellbook was handled. Try double-clicking exactly on the bookmark, or maybe _not_ on the bookmark.

Do you have a savegame for the crash?

I think the bookmark would catch clicks before the spellbook so you had to click on the page exactly.

Sorry to ask the obvious, but, do you have the correct reagents or shal's ring?

As for dupre's sheild, you could just cast vibrate on luther or just wait until the banes are released.

I think we'd really like to get our hands on the list field crash savegame. The list field bug is not supposed to crash Exult.
Also, please tell us which version of SI you are playing (floppy or CD version, with or without SilverSeed add-on). Operating system would be nice too.

I've made a savegame just before the crash - download it at http://www.shiftedphase.com/~dino/exult01si.sav and please tell me when you do so that I can remove it from my webspace. Just talk to the pikeman. When I ask for a fight, he blabs on, then heads downstairs. The Avatar follows, but then a red cross appears (like when you make an invalid move of some sort) and he stops there. The pikeman goes back to his place and Exult remains in cutscene mode, i.e. you can't go anywhere.

Not sure about the SI version, though I think it's the CD version. I do have the addon. I believe I've got Exult 0.99... the main menu shows "0.99.1RC2" anyway. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional on a P3 850MHz...

About the magic, sorry... I just didn't have the reagents :D. I thought Transcribe didn't require reagents though... Oh well, the obvious is not so obvious sometimes :) .

*cough*
the most obvious: get a new version of Exult.
I'd recommend the 1.1.x snapshot but at least get the 1.0 version.
Try with that the training.
It might be that it requires you to start a new game. I'd recommend that anyway as savegames started pre 1.0 might still have bugs in it that only get fixed by starting a new game.

Exult 0.99.1 RC2 is really way too old to support.. sorry. Try a more recent version.

I just tried your savegame. No problems here with the 1.1.x version. I could fight and train just fine.

I like seeing other peoples saved games too. It's interesting to see what sorts of things they do with their party, like how they equip them, to who carrys around what.

I just found this thread, since I'm having trouble casting Transcribe too. Seemed to work for a while, then not work. I had the right reagents, and enough mana.
I just noticed the numbers next to the spells in the spellbooks... there isn't any number next to Transcribe, so I'm thinking there is an error in the book which came with the game, which says Transcribe requires Black Pearls and Serpent Scales. It must require something else too.

Transcribe needs Spider Silk and Black Pearl.
