A new zaurus package had been created and is ready for download at the usual place.
Please note you have to do the following for the package to work:
From a console, type the following:
# cd /usr/local/share/
# ln -s /opt/QtPalmtop/share/exult exult
This new package supports party formation and all the other goodies added during the past 5 months.
Enjoy!

Please note,
I've tested the package while in the subway and there is a pb with it.
Basically, you can't exit Exult since the PDA freezes.
Why would you want to quit Exult anyways?!
I'll make a fix in the next version. Sorry about that!

From the board
http://community.zaurus.com/forum/forum ... orum_id=29:
" the user changed to zaurus instead root in the new rom version! i had to find that out by myself, ...."
So the package I made is only valid of ROMs 2.x and not for 3.x. Users of ROM 3.x must manually mv /home/root/.exult.cfg and /home/root/.exult/ to /home/zaurus/

I could you could install the SFX on the CF card. Just move it where you want and make a symlink.
As for crashing, could you please start exult from the command prompt this way:
# /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/exult 1> /tmp/exult.out 2>/tmp/exult.err
and post both files here. Please also post the content of your .exult.cfg (yes, the whole thing).
Also make sure you have moved the /home/root/.exult/ folder to /home/zaurus/.exult/ and that you have adjusted /home/zaurus/.exult.cfg appropriately.

Ah back after a long time, now that I finally got my debian sid running with qtopia desktop, I can upgrade the rom of my Z to reactivate the tool again.
Kudos to Ataxerxes for having done the port, but there is a question, what new things have gone into the port the last five months (you mentioned, that lots of new things are there which have been done the last five months)

When running the latest (just downloaded today 5/30) zaurus exult, I get the following as output on the terminal:
----------
exult.out
Exult version 1.1.0cvs
Built at: May 26 2003 11:55:06
Compile-time options:
Compiler: gcc, version: 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
Platform: Linux version 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix-021129
Data path = /opt/QtPalmop//share/exult
----------
exult.err
dpath = /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/data
Could not find 'exult.flx' anywhere.
Please make sure Exult is correctly installed,
and the Exult data path is specified in the configuration file.
(See the README file for more information)
-----------
Hmm, note the mispelling of "QtPalmop" in the "Data path". I tried maying a link (ln -s QtPalmtop QtPalmop) and was told it is a read only file system.
Any ideas?

The setting for data path is in your exult.cfg file.
Open a terminal and do the following:
* vi ~/.exult.cfg
* scroll down until you see:
/opt/QtPalmop/share/exult
* Press 'i' and put your cursor between the m and the o from "palmtop" and insert a t.
* Press 'esc' on the virtual keyboard and then the command ":w" (with the colon).
* Press ":q".
* restart exult.
Let me know if that fixed it.

Actually my solution was a bit different:
1) Put the .exult.cfg in the right place: ~ is /home/zaurus instead of /home/root (maybe it was different on the earlier version of the zaurus os, but I upgraded as soon as I got the device). Copying the .exult.cfg to /home/zaurus got the program running.
2) The files on the compact flash cards are found at /mnt/card/exult-data/ instead of /mnt/cf... probably another zaurus os change
3) Enter a full path for the sound files.
Now the program will start, but crash when I try to start a new game. I'll poke at that one a bit.

that's probably due to permission settings.
Exult by default use the ~/.exult/serpentisle/gamedat directory to store your current game. Maybe you have some bloopers there.
As for the /mnt/cf or /mnt/card, it differs depending on whether you use a compact flash card (/mnt/cf) or a MMC/SD card (/mnt/card)

could anyone give me a breif run down on how to install the SDL library. Or extensive, you know just something?
Re: new zaurus package

easy:
1) download the SDL package (see response to your previous post)
2) copy SDL package to the zaurus's document area (try /mnt/cf/Documents/application/ipkg/)
3) launch the install package program and select the SDL package.

Hi Artaxerxes,
I finally BG running on my Zaurus! I will be busy with it for a while I think... Just to let you know, I copied .exult.cfg and the contents of .exult from /home/root/ to home/zaurus. Then I used the chown command to assign ownership from root to the zaurus user. After that I edited the .cfg file to point to all the right places. Lastly I had to change the keyboard bindings file so I could play the game properly. Thanks again for all your help. The exult program is a great achievement by you guys.
Cheers,
Ronan

note to those who just happen to read the parent message, Ronan contacted me first on my netcourrier.com email address and I encouraged him to use the forum to reply. He is using the 3.1 ROM which seriously mess up the install.
I think that at some point, I'll have to make pre- and post-install script to determine which version the rom is and install the files accordingly.
