Serpent's Isle won't start with the latest build

Hello,

I have downloaded the latest build of Exult (1.4.03cvs) and am having a problem getting SI to work. I am sure that it's something that I am doing wrong but I'll be danged if I can figure it out...

Is it crashing just after the introduction? That happens with me on the latest build with SI. If that's what you're experiencing if you try to get in a few times you can eventually get in.

Me too, but I use digital Midi and it dosen't crash

Yeah it crashes immediately after the intro scenes. And only on SI.
I just tried 10 times in a row with no dice...

Yea, it's happened that way for me before. I think worst I've had run wise is about 14 crashes in a row. Sometimes WinXP pops up with an error message and other times it's just a crash.

Not saying it's the same thing, but you could have just gotten an unlucky streak like me.

By the way, I've noticed that sometimes when mine doesn't crash but doesn't load either (so I have to end task to shut it down and the 'not responding' window comes up) if I open up another Exult and run it while the other window is in its frozen state it works 100% of the time.

Well did you try with digital [music] like Achile Dragon said? Or with sound off completely, just to see if that's causing the problem?

Had a new experience happen with this... I created a new item and SI crashed, now it's not even getting to the "Lord British Presents" screen most of the time. Now, when it does manage to get to the "Lord British Presents" instead of the text saying "With help from the Exult team" it says nothing, or things like "wood roof" or "cave floor".

Ran the intro a bit, it turns out the text in that is messed up too and crashed on the 2nd line of new text each time.

It seems there is something in my patch directory that was causing the issue, so I suppose it's not applicable to this thread!

I noticed that I can´t start SI with cheats enabled without a crash before the title screen. Without cheats, there is no problem.

And of course, I just tried the latest build and it works now... They always come out the day after I stop checking ;-)

I just wanted to know what was in the backpack hidden behind the wall right at the end. I couldn´t find a way to get it without the hack mover. Its a nice little backup in case you somehow misplaced any necessary items...

Trying to decide whether to play Black Gate or Pagan now.

Up until very recently (a couple months ago at most), you could cast fetch to get it in Exult. But then I discovered how another intrinsic worked, and now you are indeed limited to hack mover to get it (like it was in the original, actually).
