i got windows xp, home edition and the exult 1.1 beta. U7 SI with silver seed addon (downloaded the add on) on an old old CD that I got along with my multimedia kit, the other games on it are strike commander, ultima underworld, etc...
anyway, the game with exult doesn't run in XP...just closes after the blue screen in journey onwards and hangs in the new game window...
help! i wanna play SI. i love the game and it brings back nostalgic memories...how can i run it?

You state that you have downloaded the add on?

If so, you have pirated it, and we will not support those who have pirated the games.

Would the old CD kit be from Creative Labs? Got that one too ;)

Don't recommend using it from that one, it seems unstable for some reason unbeknownst to me. Either the original game distro or the Ultima Collection distro. work better.

Don't download ANY full original games. It's illegal worldwide and may result in serious prosecution (they can sue for up to $250k for software priacy you know!)

Well, I downloaded the Add on, yes, but I guess I"ll delete it.

And yes, it is from the Creative Labs! But this is another one, I had two...one with BG and Underworld along with some other games and one with SI which was bought a while later when we changed computers.

So I can just play SI, but it isn't running with Exult like I mentioned before even without the add on...

Someone please help as I have now deleted the add on...thanks! Or how do I just enable extended memory and put the computer in "real mode" in XP?

Thanks for the replies so far,
Ryan

for making exult work without the add-on make a clean install of your game and set it up according to the documenatation and the FAQ.
No need for extended memory or real mode for exult.
If you want to play the original search elsewhere for answers.

if my path to SI is :

c:\u7\si\serpentisle

then what should be the cfg file? can someone just write theirs which i can copy just changing the path, cuz i dont know anything about editing files and such...

but honestly, i must mention that your installation FAQ is very confusing. I really wanna play! Please help, like you said i made a clean install and followed the instructions but i cant edit my cfg file and the exult window says that it can't find the paths or something

thanks

It should be just that - C:\u7\si\serpentisle

On an aside: I have the BG one I think, did it have Wing Commander and Space Hulk too? :)

In accordance to your other post on where you had installed the game, change the following section of your exult.cfg file from:

c:\u7\serpentisle

To the following:

c:\u7\si\serpentisle
